Hello,

Just looking for some advice before I can get to the doctors on Friday. Me & partner currently TTC. Period was due Wednesday, Friday morning bled a little bit but by 5pm had turned into passing huge clots, tissue and weird mucas, this lasted 3 hours accompanied with sickness & lower back pain & after speaking to NHS 111 will have been miscarriage.

I was due in work at 6 but came in at 9 yesterday. I work 12 hour shifts on my feet & I am in again tonight. Am I likely to cause myself more problems by not resting? The bleeding stopped at about 10pm yesterday untill 2 hours go while in work. My back really is very sore & I'm struggling (taken paracetamol).

I am hoping we are able to TTC next month, does anybody know if this is ok following miscarriage as I'm thinking shouldn't have been too traumatic on my insides as so early?

Did you have a positive test?

SparklyMagpie · 23/09/2018 09:46

Was also going to ask if you had a positive test

civicxx · 23/09/2018 12:21

I hadn't tested, was testing Saturday morning.

It might have been a miscarriage, but it's also highly probable it was just an odd period. Have you recently come off hormonal contraception?? What you've experienced may, or may not actually be normal for you.

I am sorry that you're having such a distressing time. In the absence of a positive test, I wouldn't call anything a miscarriage and think it was highly irresponsible of the 111 operator to say so. The operator has zero evidence that what you're experiencing is a miscarriage (a chemical pregnancy at this stage as it would only be detected by a home pregnancy test or blood test). They could equally have said that you have endometriosis or this is the result of coming of hormonal bc, or perhaps that you've got a bit of a bug while on your period - none of which they have conclusive evidence for.

There's a lot of heartache in TTC that people don't really talk about. Please don't experience more than you need to...

100% not normal for me, I've never passed a blood clot of any size. My periods are light & last 3/4 days usually 😊 don't experience period pains, just s bit of s stab on one side the day before & no I came off contraception a year ago. She asked me all of this on the phone & also a few questions about how I had felt the last few days, horrendous headaches to the point I was sick, 2 days of horrible very low back pain.

She did advise me to go to A&E but I didn't as they would just blood test me & confirm no:low HCG level & low iron I presume & there's nothing they could do & would have been there for hours. pet peeve about people who attend A&E for no good reason. I did however go to my mums for a few hours, she had two miscarriages before my sister one at 5 weeks & one at 12.

Thanks for input but emotionally fine over here, gutted to have such a crappy start to conceiving baby 2 but these things happen for abnormal cell reasons so it's just one of those things. do you know if we would be ok to try again next month?

Yes you would be fine to ttc straight away as long as you feel (emotionally) up for it. You may or may not find the next cycle is a bit different if it was indeed a chemical. One of my chemicals I ovulated over a week late and the other was bang on time (or maybe a day early?).

civicxx · 23/09/2018 15:12

@physicskate will have a google about chemical thank you. Yes I'm ok thank you 😊 is it worth keeping my nurse appointment on Friday do you think? I was only going to ask what mums net & google have answered or do you think it's still worth checking in? ah that's great, I'll buy an extra box of ovulation tests then if it could be out of whack as only used 3 last month! Thanks for your help :)

Probably not worth the nurse appointment. I couldn't walk in a straight line during my last miscarriage (because of dizziness) and the GP was like, 'yeah, that's normal. Off you pop.'
