Hi everyone,

I've recently registered with Mumsnet as my partner and I are trying to conceive our first baby. I'm 36 so I feel like time is running out for me.

We've just had our first cycle (is that the word? I'm not familiar with these terms) but I have sore breasts and feel like my period is going to start in the next few days :( We did everything 'by the book' including buying ovulation tests and keeping my pelvis tipped back after sex etc.

If anyone wants to say hello, is in the same boat with TTC #1 in their mid 30s or has any tips I've be really grateful!

Hello! I'm new and about to start trying for the first as well. I'm a bit younger but have PCOS and other health issues to contend with, so it might take me a while (if it happens).

I'm not an expert but I believe it's unlikely to happen in the first cycle - some get lucky, but lots of people take a few cycles before it happens. Doesn't necessarily spell doom and gloom. Hope it goes well for you and fingers crossed it happens soon Smile

Hi Roasti ad thanks for the welcome and the encouragement. I'm trying not to get disheartened as I now it can take months. I only came off the pill a month ago so we knew our chances of conceiving this month were slim (despite having sex 4 times a day whilst ovulating Shock).

I am praying everything goes smoothly for you too. I, too, have serious health issues including severe graves disease which is currectly under control but I had thyroid storm 11 months ago which landed me in critical care for a month :(

Thanks for saying hello and good luck! Feel free to keep in touch :)

Come join us on the TTC#1 35+ thread! I’m 35 and have been nervous about my age, but those ladies have been making me feel more relaxed about the whole thing.

Squiff70 · 19/09/2018 22:50

Hi Kescilly. Just wanted to introduce myself first. Will join you ladies ASAP :)

Thank you for your kind words! So sorry to hear about your health problems. Sounds really rough. I'm glad it's under control now and hope it continues to be.

Hi Squiff70 I am 33 and TTC baby #1. First cycle is over - we did all we could but no luck for us this month :( On we go to cycle #2...

Sadly no tips yet other than to "try" as much as you can in your fertile window. I am following an app (which I have been using for nearly 12 months so it's pretty clued up on my cycle) and monitoring my CM to give me an idea of when's the right time!

Good luck for this cycle!xx

Good luck in your journey.
NHS gives good logical advise of:

More than 80% of couples where the woman is under 40 will conceive naturally within a year of having regular unprotected sex.
Regular unprotected sex means having sex every 2 to 3 days without using contraception

Thats the best policy. Try and keep it fun and exciting in an aim to not become stressed. Unfortunately there is no golden rule that will guarantee success.
No need to be alarmed if it takes some time. I think they advise to wait a year before seeing your gp about fertility, unless you have any underlying issues.
I am 32 and waiting to get back to trying for #2. #1 caught first time (very very lucky) and we've had to postpone trying for #2 after 7 cycles with no luck.

Thanks everyone so much for your replies. It's nice to know I'm not in this boat alone! Looking forward to sharing this journey with other mums and (hopefuly soon) mums-to-be :)

Hi all,

Quick update:

Period is due in three days (25th Sept). For the last 5 days I've had extremely sore breasts and today I've felt absolutely exhausted. Signs of impending period or early pregnancy? Who knows? Going out of my mind already...

@squiff30 wishing you all the luck in the world this month. I’m sure you’ve had lots of people giving their words of wisdom but just incase it helps there are studies that say not to do it more than once a day when trying to conceive so that the sperm is more concentrated, though your other half may have really good sperm so that may not be an issue at all x

Squiff70 · 22/09/2018 22:44

@sunshine1987 thanks so much, and thanks for the tip! I just told OH what you said and he said "no way!!!". IOW he wants as much as possible, any day of the month, lol

@squiff70 😂 haha sorry to your other half. Though round of applause for both of your stamina’s, I’m well impressed/jealous lol x
