Stopping the pill help?!?!

So me and hubby have decided to try for a baby, ive been on the pill for over 9 years. I took 1 week into my new pack and then decided to stop. 3 days later ive had a period (assuming this is normal after stoping the pill) but a really painful one! I never had any pain with any before! Is this because ive stopped the pill? Also ive been getting headaches too?

You should really have finished the pack.

Have you been taking the pill every day and not had a period in 9 years?

Luckylola12 · 19/09/2018 13:20

No ive been on the pill for 9 years, with a regular period on my weeks break. But i just wondered if it was normal to have a period as soon as you come off the pill?

Oh no! I called the nurse and she said any time was okay???

Did the nurse mean it would be ok to come off the pill anytime as in after finishing the packet? After the 7 day break you just wouldn't start a new packet.

Im not sure =( im pretty sure she said anytime during the pack, but its too late now ive done it =( hopefully my body will just settle down and get used to not being on the pill? Do you think its normal to have a period? Maybe my bodys just confused because it thinks im on my week break?

You’ve totally confused it, however it should fix itself quickly.
I stopped the pill in January after 10+ years and fell pregnant in April after half heartedly tracking dates. Unfortunately miscarried at 5/6 weeks but immediately fell pregnant again and I’m now 22 weeks.

I'm sure it's fine to stop it without finishing a pack.... That's what I've always been told anyway.

tessiegirl · 19/09/2018 14:13

It's ok-just had a quick look on Google and it says if you stop pill midway through pack you may experience bleeding as soon as two days after. It may take longer for your body to resume it's natural cycle.

Luckylola12 · 19/09/2018 14:25

Ooh really? Thanks for researching for me! Eek okay...so hopefully this bleed will stop like when i normally have my periods and then for it to be normal i need to have a 3 week gap and then a period?

Yeah i imagine once bleeding stops you just wait for your first real period and go from there!

Sandstormbrewing · 19/09/2018 15:34

It's absolutely fine to stop mid way through a pack. A period within days of stopping the pill is normal, depending on the pill you are on. No idea why it hurt but I wouldn't worry about it as a one off. You are now good to go with the ttc.

youngestisapsycho I was on the pill 4 years and just ran them back to back, never had a bleed. I then moved on to the pop and didn't bleed for 6 years. Has done me no harm and GP said it was fine.

Sandstormbrewing · 19/09/2018 15:36

The pill deliberately stops your cycle and stopping the pill for your break week is a withdrawal bleed NOT a period and has no bearing on the natural cycle you will eventually fall into. Some people take longer to fall back in to a natural cycle, but it is luck (as in how well your body responds to change in hormones) and not when you stopped your pack or how long you were on the pill for that makes the difference.

MrsDash · 19/09/2018 15:45

I agree with @sandstormbrewing based on what I’ve been told and also my own experience, it’s luck as to how your body reacts/regulates itself (annoyingly my body took nearly 4 months for a proper period).

Thankyou for all your feedback! I really apprieciate it!
