21-25 day cycle - help me guesstimate ovulation?

Trying to crowd source so general statistics here, so if you have a short cycle and know when you ovulate, can you share?

In terms of background, I have PCOS and so OPKs don’t work at all for me. Have used other methods of detection over the years, but no real luck. Have a 6yo and been TTC ever since, but he took ages too so hopes not high! Can’t cope with the mental burden of temping and charting again (that’s five years I’m never getting back...). I know there is a good chance I’m just not ovulating at all.

Over the last year my cycle has been consistently 21-25 day’s with one random 32 cycle in the mix. What I’m trying to work out is where people tend to ovulate in short cycles.

If you’re happy to share, would you be able to tell me:

  1. how long your cycle usually is
  2. when you ovulate (best guesses are fine!)

I really appreciate it! To make matters worse, my period is long so I'm worrying I’m missing it every month!

Also have pcos. It's unlikely that you ovulate on such a short cycle - luteal phase would be too short to conceive even if you do.
With Pcos, I would say get a referral to a consultant and let them know you are trying. They can help regulate your cycles. Have a look at myoinositol from Zita west, make sure your diet is pcos friendly and you are at your healthiest bmi then you stand as good a chance as possible of falling quickly :-)
I'm a 27 day annovulatory cycle. Think I ovulate about twice a year between day 18 and 21 and not strong enough to conceive

Thank you for the advice. I’m under the care of a good endocrinologist and take my myo-inositol daily - I also follow my PCOS diet, but my BMI needs work. Essentially I know it’s a relatively hopeless cause, but just looking for a vague sense of when it might be if it were to happen so that we can at least be in with a shot.

Have you had it done on bloods? It is most reliable for us - last clear blue study showed pcos results for positive ovulation were incorrect due to hormones so we can't trust sticks or monitors.
Sounds like you are well on track - you could ovulate anywhere between day 9 and 19ish - pros and cons with all of it.
Happy humping in the mean time!

You can an still ovulate with your cycle length. With it being this short I'd say you'd ovulate somewhere right in the middle. If OPKs don't work for you and won't temp, you just gotta dtd regularly between CD5 and CD17 to be completely safe.

I had a 26 day cycle after I came off the pill and I ovulated around day 13.

I couldn’t tell you whether it was like this every cycle though as I was one of those bitches people who got pregnant really quickly. I determined ovulation by checking my cervical mucus and I was overweight at time of conception.

Good luck :)

Thanks all. Mr Bloom - yep, had bloods at various times, most recently about six months ago and prior to DS (who was 8yrs TTC) even has TVSs to figure it out. Oh, the things we do! I think you’re right - some warped version of the SMEP may be my best hope if the ovulation fairy were every to inadvertently crash land in our house...

KatBeCool - thanks - will give Day 5 onward a go - in for a penny! If we didn’t have DS, it would be different, but my brain didn’t cope very well in terms of my mental health when we were trying to have him, and the idea of temping again gives me something akin to flashbacks to that time of utter desperation, particularly as he only rocked up when we gave up! Maybe I need to give up again? Or the reverse is true and I need to re-bond with my thermometer!

Stephisaur thank you for the reassurance - Oh, cervical mucus - slightly less flash-backish,so may try that again.,,
