Laparoscopy / cycle lengths

Hi all,

Bit of a mixed one here. I had a successful laparoscopy in July and since Aug we're TTC. My cycle is traditionally bang on 28/29 days until recently when my period was 7 days late - you can imagine what was going through my mind and yes, I had managed to sit on the more hopeful side of being realistic. It threw me as I am never, ever, ever late for my period so to have a 35 day cycle was unheard of. Low and behold I got a shock on Sat when AF arrived and burst my bubble.
So firstly, has anyone recovered from a laparoscopy and had their cycle thrown out of sync? If so, when does it get back to normal? Has anyone conceived soon after a laparoscopy?

Secondly I try to follow my ovulation days based on cervical mucus but don't always find it terribly accurate and I tend to get a bit confused. I know what I'm looking for etc but just sometimes get a bit ? through the whole thing. Traditionally whenever I have used ovulation sticks they have never worked and never picked up an ovulation reading which caused me to do a bit of a fertility MOT. Blood tests and the laparoscopy showed I had ovulated recently so it does seem I'm ovulating but I want to be able to track it as well as mucus reading. It seems when I ovulate there isn't enough hormones released to pick up a result? I've tried the BBT thermometer etc but again, the results just seem always consistent and without any spike at all in temperature. Does anyone have advice on how you can use ovulation sticks to get an actual reading (I've read somewhere someone used them three times a day to pick up a reading) - has anyone tried this? slightly going out of my mind

Have you tried more than one brand? Some people only 'work' with a certain brand. That and tracking bbt are the usual methods of tracking.

The only other method I've heard of (other than bloods, obvs) is ferning. I haven't tried it, but have a google and see if it works for you.

About the lap, I would imagine it's unusual for your cycle not to be affected by surgery in the area, along with the stress and change in routine you may have had. Any change in your life can affect your cycle. Depending on what was found/ done during the lap, your cycle may or may have not changed permanently... only time will tell as you're unique to anyone else... as frustrating as that is. It would be great if there was a universal 'this is what your body does when x happens' but biology is a very inexact science (which is why o find it frustrating).

Hugs. Good luck.

Thank you. Yes, tried many different brands from cheap to expensive digital ones and all unsuccessful.

I thought so re cycle length. I am so impatient I just want it back to normal and to stop getting my hopes up with late periods!

Thank youxxx

Hi -my first cycle after my lap was very different -but the opposite way. I ovulated on day 8 when I usually ovulate on day 18 ish so I had a much shorter cycle straight after. Although-having said that my luteal length grew by a few days which was great as it’s usually shorter.

The 2nd cycle-the one I’m currently on is looking much more back to my normal one of ovulating later in cycle. I’m hoping for an extended LP again this time.

Suffice to say-I don’t think the cycle or two straight after can be relied upon-I think the body takes a while to sort itself out and reset. Fingers crossed for you.
