A) being obese
B) delaying TTC whilst losing weight but then would be 33 plus....

I know it's not the best situation being obese & I'm trying but I can't get past the age delay & feeling like I'm leaving things too late. DP would be 37/38 if we waited.

I don't want any abuse for being obese please, just general thoughts on what the greatest risk to you would be.

I think it depends how obese you are (BMI is helpful information) and how long you think it would take you to lose weight.

Also are your periods regular? Losing weight often makes you more fertile

My bmi was 34 and I’m 37. I didn’t want to put off ttc so did both at the same time.

Started slimming world, bmi is now 30 and I just got my Bfp. I Can continue doing SW when pregnant as you only need the extra calories during the third trimester, and it’s only an extra 200 a day you need.

I have a few relatives who were obese when they conceived and had perfectly healthy pregnancies/ births/ babies. I have 2 friends who fell pregnant overweight and actually lost weight while pregnant - both are healthy weights post-baby. I don't think you necessarily need to delay ttc but just be mindful of being healthy while you do and then while you are pregnant of course.

Thank you for your replies. My bmi is 47 😔 I recently joined SW & lost 6lb in my first week, I just need to keep motivated & stuck to it. I'm healthy in all other aspects, recent blood tests have ruled out any thyroid problems, my blood sugars & cholesterol are in normal range, my BP is fine. My cycles are a little irregular but do seem to be calming down. I'm using the flo app to help track. PCOS has been ruled out too.

As per other posters, I say start trying but realise that the more weight you lose the more likely to have success! And the more you can lose the healthier a pregnancy you're likely to have.

Hopefully you'll get pregnant soon - if you do struggle you need a BMI

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 16/09/2018 15:40

6lb is awesome! I only lost a half pound in the first week so you’ve already got a head start on me!

SoyDora · 16/09/2018 15:44

With a BMI of 47 I would definitely continue trying to lose weight. Even if just for 6 months. Then carry on with the weight loss whilst TTC.

delilahbucket · 16/09/2018 15:47

Your BMI is definitely a greater risk than being 33 and not only is it a risk to you but to your baby too. 33 is not old to be starting ttc. It's a normal age.

Thanks All. Sometimes I need to hear from real people rather then Google. All comments taken on board. I think I'm going to keep going with SW & reasses where I am at Christmas.

@thehalfbloodprincess my apologies, I forgot to congratulate you on your bfp! Good luck
