Yes Lissie...it is clomid.
I was put on clomid whilst on the waiting list for other treatment. I had no known problem with OV....it's just what they do here.
HTH (a bit!)

lissie · 09/06/2007 13:55

thank you. i thought that was it but was a bit worried that they might have picked something up on my day 2 bloods

I'm sure it's just routine to do that Lissie.

anything i should know about it? any side affects etc?

sorry, nearly forgot. hows it going?

OP posts:
coggy · 09/06/2007 14:52

I actually had very few (if any) side-effects.
I was told that it was called the husband's nightmare drug beacuse lots of people go really PMT-like on it with HUGE mood swings. I think I may have been a little less tolerant...but then I still can be some days!!!! LOL.

Each person is different I guess.
I have heard that several people take it in the eveniong so that their symptoms are not so noticable so that may be worth bearing in mind.

There is a clomid thread where you can ask/ read about other poeple's experience. I don't know if you've found that yet....I'll try to do a link in a bit for you.

I took clomid three years ago....had three cycles worth (not consecutive) and then fell pg with ds on a month off!

Pussycatmomma got her BFP last week on only her second month and Rachee got hers after seven cycles..so, again, everyone is different.
I do hope it works for you quickly.
I shall keep an eye out for you!

Hi Lissie - I'm due to start taking it as soon as af arrives (probably later in the week) so maybe we can go through it together! I'm a bit nervous but also excited.

Coathanger · 09/06/2007 16:00

I conceived DS1 on my second cycle of Climid. I had a hormaonal imbalance and wasn't OVing so was put on Clomid, whilst on the IVF waiting list. But it worked well, and seemed to do the job.

Good luck Lissie! I wish you all the very best xxxxxxxx

lissie · 09/06/2007 16:02

hi buttercup & coathanger.

buttercup how long have you been ttc for and why has your doc put you on it?

coathanger, any tips?

OP posts:
Coathanger · 09/06/2007 16:07

It was a while ago Lissie, but all I can remember is I was quite nauseaus on it. And I also took it in the evening. I hadn't had a period for 2 years prior to taking it so I also remember being insanely exstatic!! I also kept a positive attitude towards its effects. I knew if nothing else it would kick start my menstual cycle, and any side effects were worth it if I was to fall PG on it.

I'm sorry I have no great pieces of advice but Keep that positivity and keep smiling xxxx

lissie · 09/06/2007 16:13

thanks. im excited and a bit scared. will they give me the prescription then or will i have to wait and see the specialist?

OP posts:
buttercupbabe · 09/06/2007 17:01

I've been prescribed it for having a short luteal phase - 8 or 9 days then af so not long enough for implantation. I've got a ds who is 2 in two weeks! Gp said hormones bit weird after pregnancy and breastfeeding and somehow mine have gone a bit loopy. The gynae I was referred to prescribed it for me. How about you Lissie?
I've heard mixed reviews about side effects but agree with coathanger about being positive - hopefully by keeping happy the side effects will go unnoticed ( if there are any)

lissie · 09/06/2007 17:13

took us 5y ttc ds (was 2 in april) but since then ive had 4 early mc's and in feb i had a ruptured ep which resulted in my left tube being removed. we've had a zillion blood tests and tbh i think this is just to try to keep us away from ivf. my cycle is a textbook 29d with ov at day 15.

are you a bit nervous too?

OP posts:
mummydoc · 09/06/2007 17:19

had it twice , dd1 eventually concieved with ivf , dd2 with clomid, it made feel nausous which used to make me htink i had morning sickness but otherwise ok, good luck

lissie · 09/06/2007 17:25

how many cycles did it take mummydoc?

OP posts:
mummydoc · 09/06/2007 17:37

first time 4 months then had ivf, as started at max dose and wasn't ovulating by 4 months so threw a hissy fit and demanded to move on as jsut new waiting another 2 cycles would make no difference, dd2 i took it for 11 months sometimes ovulated, sometimes didn't but knew i didn't want ivf again so no harmin just plodding onwith it. Cannot imagine why it is prescribed by consultants for women who are ovulating , the drug literature strongly points out it will do nothing for ovulating women - sorry if you didn't want to hear that - i really hope you concieve soon

lissie · 09/06/2007 17:49

just read up a bit more and it says that most women are started on 50mg but ill be started on 100mg, do you think that im not ov-ing from my tubed side then?

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 09/06/2007 19:49

Clomid is indeed the same as clomiphene.

I was wondering what your Day 2 blood results are like. Would think that if both your LH and FSH were tested there is an imbalance between these two hormones (maybe LH is higher than FSH). You need to determine this though by asking them. Hormonal conditions like PCO/S can cause this to arise.

I have heard of cons giving it to ovulating women but it should really be used in cases where ovulation is a problem and even in those cases with a degree of caution (particularly if PCOS is an issue).

You should be monitored whilst on clomid (with blood tests and ultrasounds) as you will have no way of knowing otherwise whether its doing it's job properly or not.

lissie · 09/06/2007 21:29

tbh attila, i was thinking the same sort of thing. i know that they found substantial adhesions on my right tube during my salpingectomy and he didnt mention the clomid during our meeting, i had my day2 bloods the following day so am inclined to think that there was something amiss iykwim
