Hi
Just wanted some advice - went to the doctors today as 37 next month and have been ttc for 7 months. I know thats not long but ive read that you should go to the doctors after 6 months ttc at my age.
Anyway i explained to the doctor that i was worried as my periods are all over the place (currently cd60) but she was really surprised and said the nhs dont help until youve been trying for a year.
Eventually she agreed to do some bloods but advised after that she wouldnt be able to investigate any further till next year.
Does this sound right to others who have been through the same process?

I'm 36 and went to the gp for the same reason last month. She's doing me a sub-fertility referral after my dh has had his sperm test results. I've had a baby before and have been trying over 6 months for this one. I meet the criteria for being tested (had blood tests a couple of months ago) but as I already have a dc I won't be eligible for ivf or other treatment (fair enough). I'd go back. My gp has to look up the criteria as she wasn't sure if it was a year or 6 months. I guess it could be different rules for where you live?

I'm also in the same position. You are absolutely right. NICE guidance is 6 months for 36 or older. Print it out and show her.

My doc has followed the guidance, which is blood tests and ultrasound for me and semen analysis for DH. We've had all the tests now except I still have the ultrasound tomo. He's also already referred us to fertility clinic as apparently that's quite a wait.

Thanks - thats really helpful. I think ill book in with a locum for my test results see what they say.
Good luck with your referrals!
