Apologies for anyone who is squeamish!

I am trying to understand this whole cervical mucus malarkey but just don't get it so was wondering if anyone could give me a straight forward guide on what is actually normal rather than textbook.

Came off the pill 2 months ago. No sign of period yet. Started to look at CM to see if I could tell if my body is starting to ovulate or if Im fertile at any point etc but it doesn't always fit the pattern I've read about.

Normally it just looks a bit shiny on my finger but I couldn't really fit it in the categories of watery/creamy etc etc because it never pulls apart between 2 fingers like google says it should, my finger is just damp from me putting it inside. (Sorry gross topic I know). There have been occasions where I have gone okay this must be classed as creamy or this must be classed as egg white but then if I try it again a few hours later it's just back to being a bit of moisture on my finger and nothing too descriptive. It's not following any particular pattern either?

Is my body being weird or is this just what it's like?

I remember doing this and it is in fact, how we managed to conceive DD1 within two months of trying.

When you see it, it's unmistakable. It's not just shiny, damp fingers. It only lasts for a short time so you won't be able to "go back" two hours later and see it again. It's just there and you see it...then it's gone.

It's REALLY stretchy and really sticky.

OP, if you only came off the pill, you may need a little longer.

I haven't quite got my head around tracking my cervical mucus yet, but I have been trying to track my BBT. Not sure how accurate my thermometer is, but I saw a pattern last month around ovulation. It was the first time I'd ovulated (I think) since having the implant removed. Now trying OPKs which are so much easier and less invasive - have you tried them?

Are you checking near your cervix?

(Also, there’s no such thing as tmi in this topic!)

Thank you,

@AjasLipstick that's good to know you have to catch it at the right time rather than it being like it the whole day. Maybe it's a bit more complicated than I thought!

@RMarieClaire No hadn't considered OPKs, maybe that will be easier. Does that just give you a yes no reading for when ovulating? I'm just trying to understand if my body is getting back to a cycle after the pill, I feel a bit silly not coming off sooner really rather than waiting till we want to TTC.

@TheHalfBloodprincess To be honest I'm not 100% sure what my cervix feels like to say whether I'm getting it from there or not...! Do you just go as high as you can?!

I did the exact same thing, OP. My doctor said fertility returned as soon as the implant comes out but in reality that's not always the case and a little research made that very clear - wish I'd done the research before waiting.

I like OPKs but they're still not wholly clear. Best I've found are clear blue as it's a straightforward positive/negative.
