Bfp yesterday, bfn today, the lines look the same!

As it says in the title really, both fmu. Af due tomorrow. Cracked them open (clear blue digital), even though I know you’re not meant to, and the lines look pretty much the same. Does anyone know what the difference is? Yesterday’s is the left/bottom one.

They both look pos to me, congrats!

Could yesterday’s have been more concentrated? The control line looks much darker yesterday.

If so, maybe the test just wasn’t sensitive enough today with less concentrated urine.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 15/08/2018 09:05

Did the digital test say pregnant or not pregnant?

Jammin3 · 15/08/2018 09:07

Yesterdays would have slightly faded a bit therefore matching a a feinter one today. Todays one could be feinter for a number of reasons

BrutusMcDogface · 15/08/2018 09:09

If you open the tests they are invalid. Try again tomorrow but maybe use a different test that has a lower sensitivity? First response or Superdrug early tests. Good luck!

Waitingonasmiley42 · 15/08/2018 09:15

The digital always have a faint line if you open them. I have been caught out with this before and if you Google you’ll see other people have.

Good luck

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 09:17

@waitingonasmiley42 the first said pregnant the second said not pregnant. I also took one yesterday afternoon that said not pregnant, but I assumed it was because t want fmu.

Any idea what the lines mean and which ones indicate a positive? I know that you’re not meant to open them, but the lines must indicate something if they are what the test reads?

Digitals can't be read visually and should never be cracked open. They work completely differently from "line or no line" tests and there are always two lines inside.

The only way to read them is the digital display.

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 09:24

Okay, fair enough, very curious to find out how they work! Will try again Friday if af doesn’t show tomorrow

If you've had a positive test surely that is enough?? Why put yourself through the stress of multiple tests?

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 09:46

@astrid2 I tested early (before af due) as I if I was pregnant there was something I couldn’t do that day. Normally I don’t test unless af is late, which is very rarely. I was quite surprised tbh as we’ve been trying for over 6 months now with no luck. I felt like I needed to check to see if it’s actually true, and I guess it’s a good job I did as it isn’t :( I guess at least this way I’ve only had one day of excitement before the disappointment, if I’d have only done one test I could have gone along assuming I was pregnant when I wasn’t Sad

I’d test again using another brand

Astrid2 · 15/08/2018 09:58

But surely you've had a positive test and your period hasn't shown up so you are pregnant? There's no such thing as a false positive. And digitalis are well known for not being very sensitive. Especially when testing early! By all means test again in a week or something but I would be thinking I was pregnant if I'd had one positive and no period.

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 10:01

My period is due tomorrow, so I’ll wait and see. I do have normal period symptoms. Also, if it’s a chemical pregnancy I’m guessing that my period might come later than usual?

I only have the clear blue ones that I got free from the mumsnet study they ran, but they do say they’re accurate from 5 days before period is due if taken with fmu.

I did drink absolutely loads yesterday (I’d say 5-6 litres, I have as super thirsty which I attributed to the pregnancy) but urine was quite dark this morning so I do think it was concentrated enough to show.

If period doesn’t come tomorrow maybe I’ll buy a pink dye line test.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 15/08/2018 10:04

I have never had a positive from a clear blue digital even one I took when I was definitely pregnant. On the same day I ended up buying a boots (is Superdrug actually can’t remember) digital and got a positive.
I’d try a more sensitive test I dot rate clear blue at all especially testing early.

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 10:18

Okay, have just ordered a two pack of first response from amazon, should get here this evening. Hopefully they will clear things up either way. Does anyone know if they need fmu or not? I’m 13 dpo I think 🤔

Pretty sure a positive before your period is still a positive! I had a positive several days before my AF was due, it's currently sitting here in a high chair eating spaghetti :)

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 10:31

@upthewolves yes, definitely, it’s more the negative today I’m worried about. I very much hope that I am still pregnant but I don’t want to get my hopes up given this mornings test result Sad

OP posts:
User24689 · 15/08/2018 10:33

Oh I see. Best of luck to you OP. Could just be strength of urine maybe x

BrutusMcDogface · 15/08/2018 11:27

I would use fmu just to ensure the highest concentration of hcg. Fingers crossed for you Flowers

BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 11:40

@brutusmcdogface I did this morning, still bfn. I had some pinky cm when I went to the loo just now with a fleck of red. Think af is on its way Sad obviously wasn’t meant to be

OP posts:
BooksandBrie · 15/08/2018 20:41

Okay, got the first response in the post, did one and no line whatsoever. Think period is also starting 😖 genuinely think the positive was a fluke!

OP posts:
Proseccopanda · 16/08/2018 00:15

From having a good old Google, it does seem possible to get false positives on digitals. Given how how high the hcg levels need to be in order to get a real positive on a digital, unfortunately it does sound more likely that you had a false positive, especially if other tests are showing negative. I think I'd only reach for a digital if I'd already had a good positive on a standard test, as they just seem so unreliable Sad

BooksandBrie · 16/08/2018 08:22

Just did a google too and I think that’s probably what it was. I don’t see how it could be high enough to be picked up by a digital and then drop completely so that it’s not picked up by a frer. Plus my period wasn’t delayed at all it was early if anything.

OP posts:
iggleypiggly · 16/08/2018 11:52

Has AF arrived OP? Flowers

BooksandBrie · 16/08/2018 12:06

@iggleypiggley Yes , unfortunately :(
