Could I be pregnant?

I have a son and a daughter aged 1 and 2. A week ago (midcycle) we had an incident where a condom split but, thankfully, we discovered it before ejaculation. I don't know how long it had been split, but it must have been a few minutes before we discovered it. My period is due on Sunday and for the last week I have felt very, very sick and unable to sleep at night - my mind is all over the place, and I can't shut down. I had these exact same symptoms between conception and when my period was due during my last two (planned) pregnancies. The thought of another one now scares me - I would have a 3, 2 and a 1 year old after a year!!! Talk about close together! How likely is a pregnancy under these circumstances?

No, I haven't bought a test. I am putting it off.
We've always wanted three kids, but planned to wait until the little one was 2 before trying again. He has only just turned one.How do you deal with three so little?!??
I feel sick.

Titania · 23/08/2004 12:35

3 is no harder than 2 i have found....if it turns out you are having another, you will manage. The only thing is you are less likely to be able to rest with 2 other little ons to look after, but if you have friends or family who can help, take advantage of it. I would test anyway and put your mind at rest either way

SickAsAPig · 23/08/2004 12:55

We have no family for support. I have some great friends, but as they all have young kids I do not call on them very often.
I have just started back at work so am worried about that too.
I am 36, so I suppose hanging about for a third makes no sense - and if I am, well, I am!
I do not feel ready to test. I am at work, I want to go home, but can't as I have only just come back (after maternity)!!. Dh thinks it is impossible for me to be pg and has told me to stop worrying. If only I was so sure.

Titania · 23/08/2004 12:58

i think you know in youself when it comees to things like this!! how late are you now?

notthecod · 23/08/2004 13:00

GO AND DO A TEST! HOENSTLY ?
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW GO AND FIND OUT!

kelly0612 · 23/08/2004 13:02

my sister had 4 kids under 3 she fell pg with twins then 9 mths later she fell pg again then 9 mths later she had another 1 everybody she thought she was mad she also had no family around to help her but she coped really well and im sure you will to

SickAsAPig · 23/08/2004 13:40

o kelly - is your sister real??? Were they all planned? Makes me feel better anyway.
I can't test yet as I am at work and I am not ready to deal with a positive result.

kelly0612 · 23/08/2004 16:03

the twins were planned i think as for the others a mistake

alexsmum · 23/08/2004 16:19

feeling sick and being late can be caused by anxiety. you could just be worrying yourself into feeling this way.id dh hadn't come i would think it unlikely that you are pg. I would do a test tonight..it will almost certainly be neg and then you can relax.

SickAsAPig · 23/08/2004 17:22

OK - I gave up at work and decided you are right - I should go home and test. Not knowing is causing me so much worry. The chances are slim that I am pregnant and therefore I am probably worrying about absolutely nothing.
I am going home to test!

Tessiebear · 23/08/2004 19:22

have been watching this thread with baited breathe - any news Sickasapig???

SickAsAPig · 23/08/2004 19:39

Negative test (first response).
I was due on Sunday.
Still no period by end of Monday. I am normally 28 days clockwork.
Can I assume that I am most likely NOT pregnant? or anyone shown negative at 2 days late and it turned out they were actually pregnant?
I am now assuming I am not pregnant - and I have stopped worrying (almost!)

alexsmum · 23/08/2004 22:16

congrats sickaspig!!!if you are neg with a first response, then I should say its pretty certain you're not preg! Wear some white trousers tomorrow that will make your period start!

libb · 23/08/2004 22:34

worrying about it can play a big part - I remember my driving test years ago put my cycle out by about 2 weeks and I am usually regular as clockwork!

The female body is a crazy thing I think! Look how women alter their cycles to coincide with each other? a substantial part of mumsnet must be due around the same time seeing as we're all so close!

Tessiebear · 24/08/2004 09:39

Sickasapig - i have always received negatives until about a week after my period is due - but i have never used a first response test.

SickAsAPig · 24/08/2004 10:16

In both my other pregnancies, I got a positive 3 days before AF was due. I am pretty sure I am not pregnant, although was rather getting used to the idea!!! (crazy woman!)
I am getting period pains on and off so keep expecting her to show. Still nothing though.

happy1 · 24/08/2004 10:29

I got a faint positive on day period due, then the doctors test showed negative. I have done two of my own plus another one at the family planning clinic and they've all been negative. I still haven't come on, and still got symptoms but the doctor wouldn't give me a blood test so I'm waiting to see another doctor. I too would have 3 under 3 if I was pregnant and kept it, it is a scary thought isn't it? If I am pregnant, which I'm convinced I am, I would be 12-14 weeks now.

SickAsAPig · 24/08/2004 10:35

How late are you, Happy1?

happy1 · 24/08/2004 10:37

8 1/2 weeks now. I swear I can feel the top of my uterus now aswell.

CP3 · 24/08/2004 10:39

Looks like ill have 3 under 3 too happy1. Isnt it wierd about your tests?????

happy1 · 24/08/2004 10:42

It is wierd, and it's also really fustrating as I feel like no one believes me, even DP. He's a 'I'll believe it when I see it ' kind of guy. I feel like I'm going mad, or maybe imagining everything.

CP3 · 24/08/2004 10:50

When are you back at the docters, im amazed they havnt done a blood test. You could even have a scan now.

happy1 · 24/08/2004 11:14

Next week. The doctors round here won't do anything unless they think it's necessary. When I phone for an appointment, I give them a list of doctors I don't want to see!

moniker · 24/08/2004 11:47

I had several positive tests with Clearblue when I was just (4 weeks) pregnant with DS2. I'd had 4 previous miscarraiges so went to the EPU where they did a blood test. It was negative and i was sent away for a week. The next week it was positive. The docotr I saw said that the Clearblue sticks were looking for any presence of preganancy hormone wheras the hospital blood test was looking for a specific, higher level hence it came back negative and the Clearblue was positove. And DS2 is now 3! So you may well be pregnant Happy I think is what I am trying to say!

SickAsAPig · 25/08/2004 07:35

Still no AF and I was kept awake a lot of last night with dreadful nausea, I was hot and clammy and had nasty vivid dreams. I am really late now.
Am I looking at 3 under 3??????
I can't be pregnant, can I? I've had a -ve test already and will test again at the weekend when dh home..... where are my white trousers...
