BBT and charting?

Right, so we've been ttc a few months now and don't seem to be having much luck... I've been using ovulation strips but they aren't very reliable or consistent. I'm pretty sure I ovulate as I have been pregnant before a while ago (it didn't progress) and I get all the symptoms and CM etc...

Just want some advice on charting and taking BBT. What thermometer do I need? Sounds silly but where do you take the temp from?! What apps are good to chart with? And what trends do I need to look out for to say when I ovulate etc?? thank you! Xx

Hi lovely. You need a thermometer that reads to 2 decimal places for ttc. You're supposed to place the tip of the thermometer under your tongue as soon as you wake, try not to move at all, not even your legs if you can help it. I keep mine on my bedside and as soon as oh's alarm goes off I just reach for it and place it straight away.

There are literally loads of apps to choose from, I've used a few but my personal favourite is fertility friend. It's not pretty or anything but it has some very good features and I found this one to be the most accurate.

You ideally want to be checking for fertility signs before ovulation, everyone is completely different but I tend to have a drop in temperature for a couple of days and then after ovulation I get 3+ days of significantly higher temps. You want to be monitoring other ov symptoms around this time too like cm, cervix position and OPK readings.

Hope this helps.

I've recently started to use fertility friend - and yes - it's not very slick or user friendly - but the info that they can give you is really good (I caved in and bought the premium subscription which is fairly cheap per month) and it's definitely satisfying my obsessive ttc urges!
I bought a bbt from the chemist. It's two decimal places and I have been just taking temp as soon as I wake up.

Google “Duofertility” , a monitor you wear that measures BBT continually so you can track your cycle really accurately. It’s not cheap, but you also have the services of experts who you can phone/ consult whenever you want and they give you a report periodically and advise you if they think any testing is likely to be helpful. They used to offer a guarantee if you met certain criteria and you got a refund if you weren’t pregnant within 12 months. Good luck!

Thanks ladies! So helpful! Hopefully I can understand my cycle better after tracking my BBT 😊xxx
