Pull out method

Mrstobe90 · 02/08/2018 09:40

My Dr said that it's a reliable form of contraception if done properly but I'm not sure I agree.

So I was wondering, has anyone here conceived by using the pull out method properly?

Well i can tell you that I haven't got pregnant from that method. I've been secretly hoping it would happen for the last 6 years but no luck!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 02/08/2018 09:45

I've used it myself successfully, but around ovulation I wouldn't risk it just in case and would use a condom. I think if a baby would be the end of the world for someone, then it's not reliable.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/08/2018 09:47

Cookie I think you need to have a conversation with your partner about ttc...

OP I think you need to track your cycle too. There is sperm in pre cum

Pittcuecothecookbook · 02/08/2018 09:49

I successfully managed to not get pregnant on this method by using the app Clue for years with my husband. We would abstain from penetrative sex on my fertile days (5 days per month). However, after a few too many drinks on holiday I didn't check my fertile days, did the deed and the next day realised that was my ovulation day. Now breastfeeding my 6 week old on the sofa.

Not sure what the moral of that story is but at the very least, be sure when you're ovulating and don't risk it. Pre-cum can get you pregnant.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 02/08/2018 09:50

No, it’s worked for us for 4 years (along side cycle tracking, so extra careful on fertile days) and conceived 2 kids first cycle so it’s not like we have trouble. But I’m aware it’s not reliable however I think most of that is because the man has to not lose control! I’m wanting a ‘better’ method for the next couple of years as deffo don’t want another kid just yet, but has to be non-hormonal and can’t do a coil!

OneThreadOnly0101 · 02/08/2018 09:52

Well, it's only really a method for people who don't mind possibly having a baby... If your cycles are reliable, you track accurately and your OH pulls out in good times then it is somewhat reliable but there's always a risk. If having a baby would be a disaster then you should use another method. Definitely abstain during your fertile window.

TheVanguardSix · 02/08/2018 09:53

I stopped the pill in my 20s (around 27) and never took it again. Never got pregnant that way (I’m 46 now and I have a family).
That being said, it can happen and you really have to know your cycle and not be silly around your ovulation, which is like a movable feast. You can ovulate on day 10, day 12, day 14... it’s a ‘window of days’ and you must be careful around that window.
It worked fine for me as a way of avoiding pregnancy.

Rainatnight · 02/08/2018 09:54

There's a thread on here somewhere about a woman who's unexpectedly pregnant using this method and it's pretty much destroying her relationship with her DP. So...

CookieWaffle · 02/08/2018 10:08

That made me laugh out loud @SleepingStandingUp. I think he's got the message now Wink

SleepingStandingUp · 02/08/2018 10:43

Then tell him to stop pulling out, I couldn't be doing with the mess lol

Greenglassteacup · 02/08/2018 10:44

I am shocked to hear that your GP recommends this method!!

PrettyLovely · 02/08/2018 10:54

"Well, it's only really a method for people who don't mind possibly having a baby"

I agree with this, I used it it didnt work, I got pregnant, I obviously wasnt upset about this as I knew there was a chance it could happen, My relative also used it and got pregnant.
I dont use this method now as I REALLY dont want anymore kids.

I also cant believe a gp recommends it!

kenandbarbie · 02/08/2018 10:56

Your dr said that? Really?

Greenglassteacup · 02/08/2018 10:57

Is your GP the pope? Grin

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/08/2018 10:57

Yes, weird a Dr. advocates this. Anyway, used it for twelve years without a problem, but, as others have said, wouldn’t have been a problem for us if it hadn’t worked, soooo......

Mrstobe90 · 02/08/2018 12:31

Yes, my gp genuinely recommended it. Lol

My husband and I have a 6 month old daughter and at a recent appt, my gp asked what contraception we use (condoms) and she was talking about other contraceptions available and said the pull out method is effective if done properly.

We're not planning on using it as I'm not planning on having another any time soon but I was just curious to know if it does actually work!

Your GP sounds dreadful OP

BestBeforeYesterday · 02/08/2018 12:40

Your GP sounds bonkers!
We have used it on and off for years now, even during the fertile period. I have had 2 planned pregnancies and conceived easily. I would never recommend it though!!

kenandbarbie · 02/08/2018 12:46

I'd change your GP, if that's an example of some of the advice she gives out I'd be worried about her competence.

Greenglassteacup · 02/08/2018 12:52

Me too

Mrstobe90 · 02/08/2018 13:33

She's so nice though 😂🙈

OP posts:
BendydickCuminsnatch · 02/08/2018 13:35

Well yeah it would be effective if done properly 😄 as with all contraception. The point is it is surely difficult to have that much control, and also I’m told sometimes pre-cum (eurgh hate that term!) can sneak out without anyone realising. So.
Having said that, it’s our choice of contraception. As Pp said, I can’t bring myself to recommend it though!

Racecardriver · 02/08/2018 13:36

I was taught at school that if used properly it was 92% effective. So more effective than condoms. But the real life failure rate was very high because most people struggle to do it properly. When you think about it though I dies make sense that if you withdraw without ejaculating you wouldn't concieve. Most people make mistakes though or they don't realise that stray Speen can end up in oreedjavulate if the man has ejaculated recently.

Greenglassteacup · 02/08/2018 13:38

Catholic school??

PrettyLovely · 02/08/2018 13:56

Its not more effective than condoms. Condoms are 98% effective.
