Smear test appt - can they remove coil?

Sorry me again !
I have a smear test in the morning, with a nurse, and I've just assumed that if I ask she can take my coil out for me whole she's down there lol but I've just thought maybe she can't. I can't remember if it was her or the GP that put it in 🙈 anyone know ?

It depends- some nurses aren’t trained with coils. You can always ask!

Depends on if she’s trained to do so. It was vary between nurses so no one can say for sure apart from your nurse. It’s worth an ask but prepare for her to say no and for you to need to rebook.

See at my appt to have it inserted , it was the same nurse who I'm seeing tomorrow, but the GP came in and I think she was the one who inserted it 🤔 why wouldn't they just make the appt with the GP though if the nurse wasn't trained.... Hmm.... Maybe I won't get it out then 🙈

I had to have an appt to see why i wanted it out and to check my understanding about risks of removal (pregnancy and medical complications such as tearing and not being able to remove manually) and contraception. May depend on thd surgery though.

My doctors surgery doesn't do it at all now. I had to go to the family planning clinic and only when there was a doctor present, as some clinics run without a doctor and the nurses are unable to do it.

Well I've just had my appt but she couldn't take it out today, it was the nurse I seen and she said it's the GP who has to remove it. So I have to wait for an appointment, hopefully won't be too long to wait !

I think it's a shame that more nurses aren't trained. It's only a minute job, same as putting one in. Think of all the GP appointments that could be saved!

I know, it does seem a bit silly! The nurse was there when I had it inserted and she said it's a double appt with her and the GP to have it removed, seems a bit silly to me! Especially when she was doing my smear she had easy access to it, she said she could see it and it's in place fine so should be easy to remove ! I don't mind too much because we were going to skip this month anyway but just hope I don't have to wait forever to get the appt now
