Hey,

Just as the title really... just wondering if it's common for women to fall pregnant within a month of giving birth? (And breastfeeding)

It’s very very unlikely as that would mean ovulating a fortnight after giving birth. I’ve been given medication to stop milk on the day of giving birth (my baby died) and my periods still didn’t return that quickly.

My good friend has boys 9.5 months apart. They are in the same year at school.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 30/07/2018 19:36

I'm 10 months younger than my sister but I was also 2 months premature, so should hVe been a full year younger.

Ifeelshit · 30/07/2018 21:37

It's unlikely but not impossible. The girl in the hospital bed opposite had a 10mo and a newborn. Her DP was a squady so the one time they did it between her giving birth and him being redeployed she got upduffed again! I don't think she was breastfeeding though.

rubyroot · 30/07/2018 21:50

My periods returned 3 months after giving birth- b feeding. And they say you could ovulate without having a period- so possible. You’re also super fertile after giving birth Why do you ask? Do you think you’re pregnant?

Harleyisme · 30/07/2018 21:52

It's possible my grandma bf and had my uncle in January and my mum in December of the same year.

rubyroot · 30/07/2018 21:52

Just re read that zebras- really sorry to hear that, can’t even imagine... Flowers

SpottingTheZebras · 30/07/2018 22:09

Thank you rubyroot and I wish being super fertile after giving birth was true in my case.

AlecOrAlonzo · 30/07/2018 22:16

My uncle and mum are 10 months apart. I worked with a woman who had kids 11 months apart. My cousin has nine months between her two (premature). My own DC 2 and DC 3 were conceived while I was still breastfeeding. I would not be taking any chances you weren't up for!

AdoraBell · 30/07/2018 22:19

Not me, but when my twins were babies I met someone who ended up with 3 babies under a year old. She had twins the second time. Not sure it was 1 month though.

Rachie1973 · 30/07/2018 22:20

My Mum had my brothers Jan and Dec same year

Beamur · 30/07/2018 22:23

Happened to a friend of mine, had a baby and then fell pregnant with twins. All under 1 year old!!

neededanewnamee · 31/07/2018 08:47

Sorry to hear that @SpottingTheZebras. No I don't think I'm pregnant, I was just asking the chances of it as I would like to know. Don't really want to take any chances with it as I like to spend a lot of time with my babies individually- large age gap between mine.

@SpottingTheZebras I'm so sorry :( hope you are ok (well as ok as you can be after that) and have some good support around you.

OP - after both of my babies my mum kept reminding me that breastfeeding is not contraception!! There's 13 months between me and my sister for this reason. I looked into it and breastfeeding as contraception is only possible when you feed something like every 3 hours including through the night and for long feeds.

Rtmhwales · 31/07/2018 08:55

My mum was pregnant with my brother four weeks after I was born, breastfeeding and no period. Turns out you don’t need a period to have already ovulated.

BIWI · 31/07/2018 09:01

Only if you can bare to have sex before a billion months after giving birth have passed

rainbowstardrops · 31/07/2018 09:15

Absolutely BIWI!!!!! I often hear how siblings are so incredibly close in age and I just think OUCH!!!

BIWI · 31/07/2018 09:38

'bear' not 'bare'. Definitely no baring going on after childbirth.

Fluffybat · 31/07/2018 09:59

Yes. My nan had my uncle then fell pregnant with my dad the following month. She was breastfeeding!

OllyBJolly · 31/07/2018 10:28

my sister's DCs are 11 months apart. For one month they are the same age. Different school years. She was breastfeeding (and advised to stop due to risk of miscarriage).

neededanewnamee · 31/07/2018 11:45

Oh wow seems it's pretty common then
