Hi there,
Totally new to this and have been doing a bit of researching. I've spoken with the nurse at my GP surgery who advised taking folic acid prior to trying. I've had a look at a few types and not sure if the likes of pregnacare conception is any good?

What would you recommend? Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks xx

Folic acid and vitamin D are all the NHS advises you to take - you can get small tablets containing both. Pregnacare (etc) are obviously fine, but more expensive and some people find the large tablets harder to manage. Just make sure whatever you take doesn't contain vitamin A. Best of luck.

I bought folate (methylfolate) from Cytoplan online or try Preconception Multivitamin from metabolics.com you and oh can both take it.

I took the seven seas "trying for a baby" and then their pregnancy vitamins. They are a lot cheaper than pregnacare but I don't have a huge appetite for anything nutritious so far during pregnancy so I'm getting something from the vitamins at least!

Don't waste your money on Pregnacare or any other brand name. They're exactly the same stuff as supermarket brand vitamins- you're paying for their tv ads and billboards. As a PP said, folic acid and vitamin D will suffice

I took a weeks worth of pregnacare conception and it gave me awful splitting headaches so I stopped. I don't know if it was the vitamins but I then ovulated a whole week later than normal! Usually v regular. A quick google search suggested others have found they lengthen their cycle

Thank you so much for your advice. I really do appreciate it. I'll certainly have a look in the supermarket for a cheaper alternative. I just want to try give this my best shot. Wish me luck x

I use the seven seas trying for a baby. I really like them because they're small and easy to swallow (unlike pregnacare conception) and the pack they come in is similar to a contraceptive pill pack with the days of the week on. So you can be sure you haven't missed one or taken one too many. I'm really rubbish at remembering things like that so it's great for me. Plus they're reasonably priced, I get a months worth for just under a fiver, and they contain zinc, vrimain d and the reccomended 400mg of folic acid, and maybe a few other things? Can't really remember, but anyway I'd highly reccomend them :)
