I’m just wondering if these supplements have made a huge difference to your TTC journeys? I’ve read a very positive review on Holland and Barrett saying after 2 years trying with no success she and her DH took these and 2 weeks later BFP - I know we’re all different etc and this is possibly over optimistic but would love to know any success stories that you think are due to these?

I’ve just started them along with some COQ10 I’ve heard are good for conception -thanks!

There was something in the paper last week about how the ones for men don't make any difference to sperm quality at all.

I'd save my money if I were you and just buy a vit D/Folic acid combined tablet from Boots and eat a balanced diet. Much cheaper. Pregnacare is just a way of producing expensive wee.

Oh that’s interesting - I hadn’t heard that. Yes it’s tricky isn’t it, there’s no magic pill I suppose!

It takes a few months for changes to be reflected in sperm from supplements (and from vitamins in general). Two weeks won't make much difference, so I suspect it was just coincidence.

(Also if she got her BFP two weeks later, she probably had already ovulated or was ovulating/conceiving when she started taking them anyway)

Absolutely, I thought happy coincidence at best but was interested to know if others had a similar experience

Save your money. They don't do anything more than make expensive urine. Just take folic acid and vit d.

I think there is some evidence that vitamin supplements can improve sperm quality (antioxidants/zinc/selenium) but a standard multivitamin should do the job much more cheaply than the pregnacare one.

We’d had no luck conceiving for the first five months, then my partner started a multivitamin and we both took co-enzyme q10 and we conceived two and a half months later, which is about the time they say it takes for it to make a difference. My partner went for his semen analysis the day before I got my BFP and got really good results too. However it could all just be a coincidence as we hadn’t been trying that long anyway!

I would have thought a healthy diet would be better so you should only really supplement if you have a restricted diet, due to health reasons. Eg if you are vegan you might be a bit short of iron and b6.

Notquiteagandt · 06/07/2018 21:39

I am unsure how much they help but therr is quite extensive reasearch and proof low vit D and/or B12 can cause fertility issues.

So taking a multi vit with both in cant be a bad thing no?

I was taking it and then my doctor said their advice is just folic acid and vitamin d, so I went off it but as soon as I went off it my cycles went really long! However I’ve also read threads online about the opposite effect so you just don’t know. I can’t see how vitamins would harm you though so maybe try it for a few months but if your cycle gets longer than normal come off
