EWCM experts: how many days of EWCM is too many?

Since i had DS (19 months) i've mostly been breastfeeding round the clock, so periods have only been back very irregularly.

Before DS I was on the pill for many years, or pregnant or miscarrying, so it's a very long time since I've had a normal period.
20+ years ago (as a mid-teenager) I used to have periods like clockwork, 28 day cycle down to the hour. EWCM and mittelschmerz arrived on day 14 every time. After stopping the pill to TTC I got pregnant by DTD on EWCM days and never had a period, just 5 miscarriages in a row.

Since December (ie 13 months after DS' arrival) I've had several days in a row of EWCM, sometimes with mittelschmerz, then nothing for a couple of weeks, then more EWCM for a few days, then either another couple of weeks + EWCM, or a period about 2 days after the EWCM. The periods are incredibly heavy (filling a Mooncup every 2 hours or so for about 3 days) so I think I'm spending ages in the proliferative phase. On the current cycle I've been producing EWCM since day 18 and it's now day 25 with no sign of stopping.

Is it normal to seem to have multiple goes at ovulating before you actually have a period? Is this how people end up with twins in their 40s?

NB i'm not actually TTC, more wondering if this is normal when breastfeeding or if it's something I should be taking to a doctor.

Hmm, more googling suggests perimenopause...

Hello! Sorry I know this was a while ago but I’m in a similar situation and wondered what happened and if you had any advice? Thanks,

Did it turn out to be perimenopause or just hormones settling post birth/breastfeeding?
