I'm booked in for an HSG next week - i know a bit about it and what they'll do, but just wondered from those who have already had one .........does it hurt at all, can you tell immediately if theres a problem or do you have to wait to see Dr, am also having very heavy and painful periods and think i may have endometriosis - can this tell anything about that too? Thanks.

I've had one. Before having it I was advised to take some paracetemol, that it would be 'uncomfortable' etc. When I had it I was pretty relaxed (don't know why) and they said that I was pretty flexible - asked if I did yoga - it didn't hurt at all. I was convinced it was going to be horrible - wasn't - just a bit undignified. That said I'm sure it really is a very different experience for each person - all the best - hope it's all fine for you

I found it uncomfortable, but more of an unpleasant sensation than actually painful. I would advise taking a paracetomol in advance, though. They also had a nurse holding my hand throughout, which helped. From my memory, they put a speculum in, then a tube through your cervix, then push liquid through into your womb. They watch an image of the liquid passing through your tubes on a TV screen above your head, so they can see any blockages. In my case, nothing was wrong and they told me that straight away (also turned round the screen so I could see for myself - fascinating!). No need to see the doctor afterwards. If there had been something wrong, I don't know whether they'd have said or referred me back to the consultant.
Very best of luck!

Yep I've had one too and it wan't painful, just uncomfortable and as Welshmum says, undignified. I got a bit of cramp when they introduced the dye but that's all. They had a bit of trouble getting the tube through my cervix (which still didn't hurt actually!) so I was just a touch sore for a day or two. I got myself in an absolute state before hand and then wondered what all the worry was about after! You'll be fine!!
