Hi lovely ladies.

A very "rock and roll" thread for you all! Essentially, we are planning to start trying for a baby later this year. I'm starting to take folic acid (I read that you should start taking this a couple of months before you start trying to conceive), but is there anything else that I should take and/or you could recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Not here to to offer advice I’m afraid, but jumping on your thread to get info too. I’m taking folic acid but didn’t know if it was worth splurging on some pre-natal vitamins. They seem expensive so wasn’t sure if it was all just a gimmick?! X

Folic acid and vitamin D are the really important ones. It doesn't harm to have a multivitamin but make sure it doesn't have vitamin A in it. :)

Omega 3 and iodine. Readers have the iodine as you can have too much, but if you have a good quality supplement it should be fine.
Both these are vital to brain development. Iodine is often overlooked as as there is chlorine and sometimes fluoride in the water these can be taken up by the thyroid in place of iodine (which isn’t so plentiful) so the thyroid misses out. Low iodine is a serious issue. Research suggests people with good iodine stores are less at risk of breast cancer and of course it powers the thyroid...I wouldn’t be surprised if the other halides (chlorine and fluoride) being so plentiful in the absence of sufficient iodine was partly to blame for the obesity epidemic as the thyroid working efficiently is crucial to weight maintenance.

Readers=research

Thought Id throw in my twopennies worth- was just taking folic acid starting a month or so before before starting ttc, 5 cycles and not even a hint of a bfp. Then I remembered that as a teenager I was always borderline anaemic and wondered if this was still the case and effecting my chances (also have short cycles 22-26 days long), so I got some pregnacare and now Im 7 weeks pregnant!! Could just be coincidence though x

I take vitamin d, folic acid, b6 and magnesium
DH takes vitamin d, folic acid, vitamin c and b12

I've researched as much as I can for now and found those ones are the best for me, don't take anything with B1 in it. I avoid the multi conception ones because they messed my cycles about. I also read about iron, calcium and cod liver oil so may add these in soon also.

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2018 19:19

Not B1 haha avoid vitamin A.

bionicnemonic · 31/05/2018 19:30

I’d be very cautious with cod liver oil, as it is high in vitamin A, unlike fish body oil which is high in omega 3

Seven seas conception vits have good reviews.

I took those.
Omega 3, 6 and 9 -cant remember why
B6 - cant remember why
B12 - low can cause mc
Coq10 - egg quality
Vitamin d - low can cause mc
Evening primrose oil - good for ewcm

Was ttc 3 months but put a bit more effort in 3rd month and got bfp.
