Multiple miscarriages

So technically on NHS, you aren't classed as having multiple miscarriages until you have three consecutive ones.

2%of women have two consecutive miscarriages, 1% have 3+
After one mc your chance of having another is 14-21%

I'm on my second and I'm so super pissed at this stupid 'guidance' that no doctor wants to go against.
I'm sorry but I don't want to waste another 6 months+ getting pregnant to then miscarry again just for you to turn around and say oh, okay now we can do some simple blood tests and give you some answers.

Not that ttc is a waste of time. Lord I would go years if I knew for sure I was going to have a successful pregnancy at the end of it. But it's the frustration of the unknown you know?

Anybody had any luck in demanding tests without having to suffer another loss?

I've had two too. They were both in my first year of ttc. But last one was over a year ago. So I know how you feel and can really sympathise with keeping at ttc if you KNOW you'll get there in the end. Because I certainly don't feel certain anymore after 26 months ttc...

I've now discovered my thyroid isn't optimum, which could be why I can no longer get pregnant. I've been put on a really low dose of thyroxine to help with this. This was my last test (that I insisted on before IVF as I have had issues with thyroid in the past). I am going back to GP to insist on some more tests associated with thyroid.

I know it can be pricey but could you go private for some tests? Even if its just for the bloods, then get the results and take them to your gp? Do you have any symptoms of anything such as tiredness or weight gain/loss or digestive problems? You might be able to Atleast get bloods for those things and it can rule out some problems such as thyroid issues etc.
I know it might seem a bit crafty

Crafty is great.
I'm on my partners bupa plan so might be able to get something done on that... I was reading up and I don't think they do anything till after three either....
Other than the mc the only other issue I have that I know about is asthma and a couple of weak knees...

I'm certain I must have some clotting disorder... I mean it's soooo rare to have two consecutive mc for chromosome abnormalities right?

@physicskate. I feel you. I'm so sorry its taking so long for you. Defo insist on the thyroid tests. Hopefully you get the bfp with a sticky baby soon!

Hi,

I went private for testing as well. We had one MC, then fortunate enough to have DD, then MMC and then TFMR. We then tried for a year with no success ahead of going for tests.

We found that I have a clothing disorder (v factor Leiden) and low progesterone in the latter part of my cycle. Was given cyclogest and fell pregnant straight away and then prescribed clexane injections, low dose aspirin and high dose folic acid.

We went private because it took 3.5 years to have DD and a failed ivf before conceiving her naturally so we'd had all the tests through the nhs and were unexplained. At that stage though we weren't even falling pregnant so weren't seen at the recurrent miscarriage clinic so I don't know what tests they do. We just found we didn't get answers until we went private. Hope things work out for you x

Fingers crossed you can get something sorted. I find it terrible you can't get bloods done. I'm surprised private would have those rules, I thought they would be happy to do anything as long as its paid. Maybe they'll do like a little mot test? I know on nhs you have to wait until around 50, bupa might do it regardless of age?

Try not to get your hopes up too much. I was finally referred to a specialist after my 3rd MC, waited 3 months for appointment, didn’t even get to see the specialist I was booked with as he was on holiday had all the tests and everything was normal. According to him more often than not there is no reason for recurrent miscarriages. I’m now pregnant again and so I’ve been discharged. I’ve been advised to take 75mg aspirin daily and if this one results in 4th MC then I will have to go back to gp and start from square 1 again x
