Please help me- Anyone else had massive temp fluctuations?

Hi

I started temping this month through natural cycles and my temp shifts quite a lot. Natural cycles has even told me it's shifting too much and to check my thermometer.

I try and do it between 6am and 7am everyday except on the weekend it can be one or two hours later.

I started temping because I didn't think I was ovulating. See temps below and see what you think.

So started on CD 19 of last cycle as that's when I got the thermometer:

CD19: 36.46
CD20: 36.44
CD21: 36.50
CD22: 36.45
CD23: 36.83
CD24: 36.68
CD25: n/a - overslept
CD 26: 36.54
CD27: 36.35

CD1: 36.22
CD2: 36.49
CD3: N/a- overslept
CD4: 36.08

After having a 53 day cycle in jan- march (came of pill in Dec) my cycles have increased by two days each cycle from 23, 25, 27 so I expect the next one to be 29. Hoping it then settles around this.

My plan is to set an alarm for 6am and always do it then no matter what.

Has anyone else had temp variations and was there a reason for it.

2 really important rules when temping is 1) get 3 hours sleep minimum and 2) take test at same time every day (no more than half hour either side). So setting an alarm is a good idea, good to see you'll start doing that.

I find the following affect my temps a bit:

  • Sleeping alone (when DH is working nights)
  • Alcohol
  • Sleeping with heating on
  • Sleeping with window open
  • Sleeping with/out PJs
  • Whether I've woken at all during the night for a drink/wee/night-feed DS

BBT charting can be really time consuming with how many factors can influence temps.

Thanks, hopefully I will start seeing improvement with doing it at the same time but I am not a great sleeper as it is so goodness knows what I'm going to do.

Yes and it turned out I had pcos. Maybe get yourself to a gaene

RC1985 · 21/05/2018 18:54

Can I ask, did you have regular periods or irregular?

OP posts:
TwittleBee · 21/05/2018 21:50

I've got PCOS, irregular periods ranging 25-40 days here or there in length. Usually only 26-29 days though.

TwittleBee · 21/05/2018 21:51

Not being a great sleeper and not taking temps at same time daily are probably the likely culprits for having wildly fluctuating temps.

DuchyDuke · 21/05/2018 22:28

I have regular pcos - 29-30 days, but temps would fluctuate wildly every month; presumably because my body was producing so many follicles. Temping and opks don’t work with pcos.

DuchyDuke · 21/05/2018 22:28

Regular periods with pcos

I can't go to the doctor until Dec as i remember the nurse asking why id come off the pill. Also I have been having a lot of other stress so that could also be a factor.

I have been pregnant before but didn't keep it as i wasn't with anyone and not in a good situation but now I keep thinking what if that was my only chance!

Last night set my alarm for 6am. Woke up at 3:30, 4:30 and then 6! There is no hope!

RC1985 Flowers don't be stressing that was your only chance! loads of people have abortions and go on to have successful pregnancies with ease - don't be beating yourself up about it!

Frustrating about waking up though! What if you set your alarm for 3am? then try and go back to sleep after temping?

TwittleBee · 22/05/2018 08:36

DuchyDuke Temping works with me just fine and I have PCOS. So probably just depends on each PCOS sufferer. OPKs are useless though because it measures the LH surge and those with PCOS can have multiple attempts at ovulation (so multiple LH surges) and failures to do so which is why PCOS often suffer with unpredictable cycles lengths.

RC1985 · 22/05/2018 09:42

Thanks TwittleBee :) I hope so. Well I could but not sure if OH would go for that tbh! Unless I sleep in spare room for time being.

DuchyDuke, I could have PCOS as my cycles do keep getting longer but not out the normal range yet so will see. I do get EWCM but it can be a few times a month but more when I should be ovulating x

RC1985 ahh yeah I suppose he wont be grateful haha!

Best bit of advice would probably just make sure you DTD whenever you get EWCM, just in case your body has multiple attempts at failing to ovulate as then hopefully you'll catch the successful time.
