Surgery for an undescended testicle - issue with fertility?

Hello all, not sure whether this is the right thread for this but here goes - DH and I have got to that point where we are thinking of trying for our first. We are both early 30s. DH had surgery as a young child for an undescended testicle, the other was unaffected and the surgery was successful. He can’t remember how old he was when he had the operation but thinks he was around 3/4. I’ve read a lot of stuff on the internet which suggests the surgery should be carried out around a year old as later risks problems with testicular cancer/fertility issues. I guess that 26 years ago the thinking may have been different. I know it’s probably paranoid to be worrying when we haven’t even started TTC but I wondered whether anyone has experience of this causing problems with conception? I’m sure I’ve previously heard stories of conception being possible with 1 testicle and so can’t see this would be any different but am the worrying type...

Sorry I don’t have any experience of this but I think he would be best speaking to his doctor about this matter. However if it’s only one of them that was affected, even if it does have issues he’s still got another so I’m sure there’s no need to worry

Best if he sees his GP to discuss the matter . GP can organise a semen analysis .

I had this with dp when he was a child. Not sure if it was related to his sperm problems but it took 14 months to concieve. So it did still happen, just took a little longer. He has abnormal shaped sperm and low sperm count. I would recommend getting sperm analysis done

My dh had this op when he was about 5 years old. We conceived second month of trying!

My hubby had both undescended as a child and wasn't operated on until 5 years old. We were worried and just got an SA done. It came back completely normal, good in fact! It's worth getting an SA done even to just put your mind at rest. I spent so much time worrying about it!

My ex had that as a baby but the surgery wasn't successful and the one testicle never grew but we managed to have 6 children together and he's had another one since we split

My DH had an op for this in his early teens and subsequent op because it later twisted due to a surgical error. We got pregnant on our second cycle trying (could have been the first but I had only just come off the pill that month so I think it was still making its way out of my system). There shouldn't be any issues if he has had no complications since the surgery (if there are no other underlying fertility issues obviously).
