Hello. So, I'm in a bit of a pickle, we are ttc and I will be going to a (very) boozy hen do when I am 11dpo, is it worth testing before heading out? Has anybody ever got a bfp at that early stage?

I did!! But it was also the day AF was due. I have very short cycles!

I tested at like 3pm because it was a really sunny day and I wanted to carry on drinking my Aperol Spritz without feeling guilty so I tested with FRER and got a very strong positive even though most of my wee was probably Aperol 🤣sorry TMI.

🤞🏼🤞🏼hope it's a BFP

Milly24 · 08/05/2018 19:15

I got a bfp at 8dpo but unfortunately had a chemical x

Misssmoo · 08/05/2018 19:23

Redrosebelle · 08/05/2018 19:24

I got mine at 10dpo and am now 11+2!

neversleepagain · 08/05/2018 19:26

9dpo here, it was twins.

ForeverBubblegum · 08/05/2018 19:33

Kind of, I had a test where the line appeared after a few hours (not sure how long, noticed it when I went to put something else in bin). Not a real positive, but enough to suggest something was up.

Two day's and about 5 tests later I got a proper positive, so was relieved I'd held of drinking 'just in case'

Twickerhun · 08/05/2018 19:34

10 dpo here twice. One is17 months the other due in 10 weeks

Muffin7 · 08/05/2018 19:56

Thanks so much everyone. Which test would you recommend? Glad to hear of so many bfps!!!

Yes, at 10DPO

MrsDx · 08/05/2018 20:07

8dpo 😊

MrsDx · 08/05/2018 20:07

Frer all the way good luck x

Twickerhun · 08/05/2018 20:18

Go with a FRER. Superdrug have cheap ones. Stay away from the digital tests for a week ish they aren’t sensitive

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2018 07:56

If I were you I wouldn't test before you're due. Alcohol at that stage isn't going to have any negative effect at all, so just go and enjoy yourself and test when your period is actually due.

BessMarvin · 09/05/2018 07:57

This thread is good to know about. I will be 10dpo tomorrow (if period doesn't start) and I'm going to try a FRER then. It's my first pp period so no idea of cycle length so no idea of missed period date.

Lauren83 · 09/05/2018 08:12

Yes I have, at 9 and 10 dpo. Uses FRER

Muffin7 · 09/05/2018 09:29

@NoWordForFluffy Is that true? Maybe I will wait then as I know early testing can cause heartbreak.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2018 09:53

Yep. Totally true. The placenta kicks in a few weeks' later, and that's when alcohol can affect the foetus.

I was hammered the day before my 10DPO BFP. It happens!

Lauren83 · 09/05/2018 11:01

Early testing can and does cause heartbreak, I do think there's no harm in a few drinks personally but please consider if you drank and you were pregnant you might kick yourself if something went wrong. I see so many times people having a MC or CP and blaming themselves for something they did that was likely unconnected, it's not a nice thing to have hanging over you if you are likely to kick yourself in that situation

BuntyII · 09/05/2018 11:02

Yeah just get a FRER and test.

Muffin7 · 09/05/2018 11:44

@Lauren83 That was my thinking. I had a miscarriage at the end of March in fact. Will think things over and make a decision soon.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2018 12:25

Honestly, go and have fun and test when you're due. I'm an early tester myself, but why have to pretend you're on antibiotics (which screams 'PREGNANT!!!!') when you could just not know and no pretence would be needed?

Lauren83 · 09/05/2018 12:52

So sorry you went through that, been there myself. I actually work in a fertility clinic and had 5 IVF cycles myself and the medical advice following an embryo transfer (or natural conception in your case) when TTC is to follow guidelines as if you were pregnant. I am aware that many TTC naturally don't make any changes until a BFP but I also know a lot who make the changes as soon as they start TTC, only you can decide. My last IVF cycle worked and was abroad and flying home without my usual red wines to calm my nerves was a killer! Smile Huge good luck

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2018 17:40

My GP told me that it could be a very long process and that giving up alcohol and other things we enjoyed make just make the journey even more miserable, if it were to go on any length of time.

The month I got my BFP with DD was actually my booziest month in ages due to gigs, my hen do and then my friend coming over from Oz for the wedding meaning many drinks were drunk!

Lauren83 · 09/05/2018 17:45

Very glad it worked out for you, I think a lot suffering infertility and pregnancy loss prefer to play it safe but like I said its personal choice of course

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2018 17:53

It is. But I don't think there's any evidence to support that drinking alcohol in the TWW can cause miscarriage, however.
