Underactive Thyroid and TTC - help!

After some experiences and knowledge from anyone who has been through this.

I have just seen my blood test results for TSH levels and it is at 4.96. After doing some research this is listed as Subclinical hypothyroidism.
My BBT temps are all over the place and really long cycles.
Has anyone got hypothyroidism and gone on to conceive, particularly with a TSH of under 5?

I am seeing the doc on Tuesday but I am worried that because it is under 5 they won't look into it or prescribe medication.
Also a bit worried if I did get pregnant, the effect on they baby.
Sad
Any advice/experiences appreciated. Thanks

Print out the NICE guidelines for pregnancy which say tsh should be under 2.5 in the first trimester. Show your gp.

Hypothyroidism can lead to difficulty conceiving and early miscarriages (hence the need to get below that level before pregnancy). Some consultants will even say tsh below 2!!

Your GP just needs to start you on thyroxine, then recheck your TSH level to make sure you’re in the normal range before you conceive.
You will find you feel a lot better yourself once on treatment.
I was in my 40’s when I became hypothyroid, like you it was mild, and I had to persuade my GP to treat immediately rather than wait 3 months and recheck. It made a huge difference within days! No more shivering in blankets at work, no more exhaustion climbing hills, lots more energy and enthusiasm... Go for it!

Thanks both, I will see what the GP says on Tuesday and keep my fingers crossed!
Just so disappointed that it will delay ttc, at least there is a way to fix it though.

Be prepared to argue your cause! My first doctor refused to prescribe me anything at 6.8 (even though I felt horrendous) because guidelines say it is the GP's discretion under 10. I changed GP's, got started on thyroxine and have just had my dose increased because my level was 3.2 and she wants it to be less than 2 when TTC.
From my experience I really wouldn't take no for an answer and I'd see a different GP if you have issues.

I was diagnosed at age 27 having had symptoms since a young teen- lots of other things checked in that time but not thyroid. I can’t remeber the result but it was not producing really any thyroxine. I was diagnosed in September and told I probably wouldn’t conceive until it was sorted. I was pregnant by October without really trying. They did however increase my dose through the pregnancy to make sure the baby was ok. He is now a strapping 6 foot 18 year old.

I have hypothyroidism. I can't remember my level but I take 150mg levothoroxin daily.

No problems conceiving at ages 35 and 37. I was consultant led during pregnancy. No problems - they just monitor your bloods and adjust your levothoroxin.

However I could not breastfeed fully as I didn't produce enough milk so did mixed feeding. No idea if this was connected to my thyroid but hcp were confused by my low supply.
