Hello
After 18 mths of TTc and 7 months of waiting for an appointment DH and i finally got this letter from the fertility clinic today with this as the first line.
I feel absolutely winded.
What does this mean? All the initial tests came out normal. What are they going to do? How likely is it we will ever have a child. I was 34 when started TTC now 36.
Has anyone been in the same predicament? Please?

Hiya

Okay, well for him a sperm test (yes again, but they do up to three to get an 'average' count).

For you, slightly more invasive, a history and then probably a laporoscopy and salpinogram (they spray dye in your tubes and check there is no blockages, if there is they lazer the blockage away while they are there). You are unconscious at the time and the recovery is really quick.

Don't worry too much. I went through all this and was told there was no chance for us without IVF. I then got pregnant naturally the next month - random stuff happens.

Take the tests, learn what you can and be hopeful.

Oh and take a decent book, you'll probably be sat there for hours!

Good luck!

Sorry I didn't answer all of your questions - the likelihood you will have a child depends entirely on what the problem is - if it's structural (ie a physical problem) they can often fix it. If it's more complex (ie hormonal or unknown cause) there are lots of different treatments depending on what's causing the delay in conception. Note I said DELAY, many people do find they end up pregnant in spite of challenging circumstances.

This is POSITIVE NEWS - progress of a sort. Try and be hopeful and happy that you are a step closer to the baby you want.

thank you whomovedmychocolate. I was in a bit of a state and have posted this message twice, but thank you for telling me what happened to you. I dont know if there is a blockage in my tubes whether they will bother doing anything - they said that they wouldn't in the letter (all in medical language - talking about "patent" tubes etc - but interpreting it it seems to say they dont find that kind of thing effective enough)

Mirry...you know I was sure I'd seen a similar message - so that explains it. PUSH to get tests - it's much easier to get the right treatment if you have a proper diagnosis of the problem.

Hi There

I was 29 when we decided to try for a baby, but nothing happened (expect for all my friends getting pregnant at the drop of a hat)...We then went to see a fertility consultant where I had all the tests (hormone, bloods, scans, sperm test) after 9 months of being under the clinic I was asked to have a lap and dye. I went in for the lap and dye and all was clear. Therefore the we were told it was unexplained fertility. But low and behold after the lap and dye my period did not come and I was pregnant! Unfortunately we lost the pregnancy and I am now nearly 32 and still trying. My consultant advises it is just a matter of time. But if I need it there are treatments (IUI, IVF etc) as back up, but he does not feel we will need it.
I know mine is not a happy ending so far... but I did get pregnant and hopefully will get pregnant again soon. So don't give up hope and go for all the tests just in case you want to progress it to treatment if you need to.

Best Wishes and lots and lots of Luck!!!
