Conception Date?

I was on the contraceptive implant for nine years. During this time I had not had regular periods at all!

My last menstrual period was on 20/08/17...
I then had my implant removed on 08/11/18 and had not had any periods since. I found out I was pregnant on 15/12/17 and my first scan was dated 7 weeks 4 days. According to my calculations I fell pregnant 2 days after implant removal.

Is this an accurate conception date being that I can not calculate from my last menstrual period?

All the gestational age calculations and having to add or subtract by two weeks is confusing me!

Thank you xxxx

What was the date of your scan? You would have conceived roughly 5 weeks 4 days before that but it’s not 100% exact so could be a few days out either way.

If your scan was 7 weeks 6 days after your implant was removed then that sounds about right as it would mean you ovulated/conceived roughly two weeks after the implant was removed.

My scan was on 02/01/18 at 7w 4d

I had my first scan scan on 02/01/18.

My main concern is that I did have protected sex (using condoms) in the early hours of 19/11/17 with an ex of mine. The following day I experienced the extremely stretchy egg white like discharge which I have read meant that I was ovulating.

At this time my current parter and I did have unprotected sex for the week following 20/11/17. Which would suggest, as you say, I actually conceived 5w and 4d before the dating scan?

You always add two weeks on as it’s dated from the first day of your last period so you’re actually only 5 weeks but technically speaking, they will say 7 weeks to take in to account the two weeks between period and conception so yes, that sounds about right

Abbeygayle1 · 31/03/2018 11:26

They still take into account the two weeks even if I haven't menstrated for over 3 months?

In that case they will take it from when you had your implant removed. It’s unlikely to be your exes if you used protection so hopefully it’s your partner’s baby

Thank you for the insight. Is much appreciated

I had ds 9 months and ten days after implant removed.

Abbeygayle1 · 31/03/2018 11:51

Did you mean 9 weeks?

Aprilmightmemynewname · 31/03/2018 11:53

I gave birth 9 months and 10 days later. No period first.

Abbeygayle1 · 31/03/2018 12:05

Did your first dating scan date back to when the implant was removed?

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to get pregnant immediately after removal or if they still add on an extra two weeks regardless of periods

As far as im aware, the implant suppresses ovulation and after removal it takes a minimum of 7 to 14 days for the ovaries to "switch back on" and ovulate so I think the earliest you could have conceived would be 7 days after your implant was removed (15/11/17), but I think most people take more like 10-15 days for an egg to mature. So its possible you could have ovulated and conceived with your ex 11 days after the implant was removed(you did have egg white mucus) but I still think its more likely to be with you current partner given that it was unprotected and the following week by your dates. I hope that makes sense?

You are meant to add on two weeks before conception regardless of no period. That accounts for the two weeks the egg follicle is maturing but in reality it could be as little as 7 days - apparently!
