Does gender swaying work in your experience?

Ok so I'm buckling up for a load of negative judgemental replies please be kind but basically I'm really interested in gender swaying but don't know too much about it. OBVIOUSLY I know a healthy baby is best but I'm so ridiculously broody for a baby boy I'm wondering if gender swaying could work for us? does anyone have any personal experience of this , do you think it's worth trying? I'd be really interested for your thoughts. Thanks xx

I hope you have a hard hat ready!

All I can tell you is that I have three boys & I know for certain that all of them were conceived on the day I ovulated. We weren't trying for either sex, just going for the most fertile time.

I realise it's almost certainly pure coincidence, but it's some anecdotal 'evidence' for you Smile

tvhearts · 29/03/2018 23:27

Haha thanks, I know it probably sounds awful I would obviously love my baby of any sex but I can't help the way I feel. Going to look into the 'science' behind it I think.

Three boys wow that must be lovely 💙💙💙

No. It doesn’t work and there is zero scientific proof to show that it works. I mean, try it by all means, it won’t do any harm. But just don’t rely on it. Gender is randomly assigned at conception, that’s all there is to it

ilikebread · 30/03/2018 08:27

Sex not gender!

No it’s complete rubbish OP 😊

grandplans · 30/03/2018 08:41

I thought there was some science to this.

HeresMeh · 30/03/2018 08:59

Sorry, I'm being a dumbo... what is 'gender swaying'?

ilikebread · 30/03/2018 09:11

HeresMeh it’s not ‘gender’ - Gender is a social construct, sex is biological.

what OP is referring to is trying to sway the biological sex of the baby by practising certain ‘methods’ -all complete nonsense of course...

Sunshinesaz86 · 30/03/2018 10:52

Am I wrong in thinking it’s actually down to the male sperm that determine the sex??

TheMythicalChicken · 30/03/2018 10:55

We did gender selection in the US. If you’ve got a spare 20 grand you could try that. Otherwise I know of quite a few people who have swayed the odds and got a child of the desired gender though diet, supplements and timing.

TheMythicalChicken · 30/03/2018 10:58

Oh do fuck off ilikebread. We all KNOW it’s ‘sex’ rather than ‘gender’, but is easier to use the former. Also please direct us to your thesis on gender selection as I would love to read your evidence on how it’s all ‘nonsense’.

TheMythicalChicken · 30/03/2018 10:59

*latter

ilikebread · 30/03/2018 12:03

TheMythicalChicken I think telling me to fuck off is really mean, no need for that was there. Meany!

NimbleKnitter · 30/03/2018 12:04

Why is it easier to use gender than sex? One is three letters, one is double that. Surely sex is easier?

As for swaying, it's impossible to tell. Some will swear blind it worked, and with a 50:50 outcome, half of them will be right (in fact, slightly more boys than girls are born, but it's not significant).

There were some studies that suggested that women who were more assertive were more likely to conceive boys, but nothing conclusive (and not much you can do about it).

Basically, the only way to make sure is it have IVF with ICSI and sperm selection.

It's probably for the best, when you think how different cultures have treated baby girls. Sorry if not the answer you were hoping for

ilikebread · 30/03/2018 12:12

NimbleKnitter Agreed it is easy to say sex and it is also the correct word. When people talk about gender they are discussing something else entirely.

There’s no proven method other than going to a specialist clinic.

The shettles method has been debunked.

Oysterbabe · 30/03/2018 12:35

There was a study I read about where eating more calories generally and eating breakfast cereal increased the likelihood of having a boy by about 1%
None of it really works but you may be able to very, very slightly increase the chance of a boy.

user2929 · 30/03/2018 12:40

Op.. I'm not judging at all just interested to hear why you want a boy?

Nb: mum of two girls

tvhearts · 30/03/2018 15:49

I'm not too sure if I can explain it @user2929 , it's just how I feel. Maybe something to do with on both sides of my family it's super girl heavy. If I had a baby boy he would be the first one out of the last 11 !!! Honestly I don't know just can't shake this feeling of really wanting a baby boy xx
