Hi everyone. We have been TTC since December, but decided to skip March and April as the due date wouldn't be ideal for us for a few reasons. We didn't decide this until part way through the month so we had unprotected sex the day before my fertile week began.

I carried on tracking with OPKS as I only started using them last month and I'm checking whether my ovulation date is fairly consistent/regular and whether it lines up with the fertile week predicted by my app. Ovulation was cycle day 15 (day 14 the previous month), so 6 days after we last had unprotected sex. I assume this would count us out this month, as I think sperm can only survive in the body for 5 days. Is this the case? Or can a sneaky one sometimes survive Wink Just curious.

Well thanks to Clomid I know when I ovulate, and a busy month meant not much ttc, but the dating scan confirmed there was about 8 days before the egg and sperms got together...

Shock So the sperm survived 8 days in your system? So it is a possibility for me I guess, although very unlikely...

I have been thinking about it as since we decided to skip TTC in March & April I've been indulging in my favourite vice - caffeine (Diet Coke, not coffee). I had been cutting down whilst TTC. I had a few 'symptoms' associated with pregnancy that I've had before when not pregnant (such as nausea, sore boobs) and one new one I haven't experienced before (yellow tinged CM). I suddenly wondered whether I should be avoiding the caffeine just incase.

I conceived on days 5 (dc1- unplanned) and day 9 (dc2 planned) of a 24 day cycle.

It’s possible yes, but not very likely. Sperm tends to survive up to 5 days maximum but it can survive for 7 days but I don’t think that’s the norm.

Doodlebug89 · 24/03/2018 19:13

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I should cut down on the caffeine until af shows to be on the safe side Hmm

Yellow tinged creamy CM has always been a symptom when I've been pregnant.

Doodlebug89 · 24/03/2018 22:08

It was only a little bit, but then I don't get much CM anyway. Every month I have had 'pregnancy symptoms', in particular cramps and nausea, so I try not to read too much! I'm currently 10dpo but period isn't due until next Friday.

10dpo is still very early. Every month I have "symptoms" too especially when I'm over thinking things which I do without fail. I hope it works out for you.

Thanks :) it wouldn’t be he eating timing if it happened this month, so although if it was somehow a bfp we would be over the moonbeam if it isn’t we wouldn’t be as gutted as usual.

I am a bit worried about the nausea I’m experiencing every few. It can’t be normal! Just did my teeth and made me feel so sick 🤢

*the best timing

*over the moon

It's very unlikely. Sperm can hypothetically live that long but most are dead within 48 hours.
You can still have caffeine when pregnant, just stick to 200mg per day. 4 cans of diet coke in a day would be less than 200mg.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 25/03/2018 09:01

It is unlikey. But the existence of my dd proves it is not impossible! Grin

Rumpledfaceskin · 25/03/2018 09:04

Unlikely yet my experience tells me you usually conceive when not trying so I wouldn’t be surprised!

Doodlebug89 · 25/03/2018 11:58

@oystercake Thanks, that's good to know :) I thought there would be more caffeine than that!

Thanks everyone for your replies :)

Nausea usually doesn't start until your about 6 weeks pregnant. It would be very rare to have it at 10dpo. It could just be a mild bug.

If your pregnant enough to have symptoms then your pregnant enough to get a bfp. As it's the pregnancy hormones that causes the nausea. Take a frer and see.

Doodlebug89 · 25/03/2018 19:23

Hi @poptart, I know, it’s odd but I have experienced bad nausea every tww so far. It could just be in my head but I do feel very sick. I never noticed this before ttc but as I never kept a track of my cycles I guess I might not have seen the pattern. Apparently pms can include nausea so maybe it’s just partner of my cycle I never noticed before...
