High FSH HELP!!

Wishful30 · 21/03/2018 17:05

So we have been ttc for 8months.
Ive been charting, using OPK's ect ect.

My AF is 26-28days, always, without fail.
OPK's day 14/15 always.

I had a chemical pregnancy in January.
I'm suspicious whether I ovulate from the left side...

Oh, and I'm 34

Hubby has started to worry he has issues (he's 25)
He's mentioned fertility tests. So whilst I was out today, I saw one and thought, let's do it, it'll put his mind at ease before we visit the GP.

So, here I am home alone, he's not in from work yet and mine is bloody positive. I've got high FSH 😣

Has anyone had high FSH and gone on to have babies??

Of course now I'm having a mental meltdown and can't get a docs appt.
on go the 1000's of questions...
is because this month should be my left side, so it's working harder? Is it because i should be ovulating now?

Someone calm me down please 😞

Sorry to hear that :( I don’t know much about high FSH but a quick google suggests that while it indicates low quantity of eggs it does not necessarily indicate low quality. The fact you got pregnant once already shows that your body still has eggs and you just need one good egg to fertilise and stick! I’m undergoing fertility investigations (15 months TTC) and the doctor repeatedly says that the best indicator that I’ll get pregnant is my chemical last August.

But I would suggest going to your doctor ASAP as if you are going to need IVF it would be better to get referred as soon as possible, as you’re 34 you might get away with not having to wait a year especially if you tell them about your FSH result.

Sorry I couldn’t say anything more specific but hopefully someone with experience will be along soon.

Hi OP
Sorry your stressing out.
I had lots of hormone troubles a few years ago and (although it wasn’t to do with the problems I was having) I too had higher then average FSH.
Like PP mentions, it doesn’t indicate your not ovulating or that you can’t get pregnant because you’ve already got pregnant which is a great sign.
First pregnancies quite often end in miscarriage (as I’ve too just found out)
In fact when I checked myself, low FSH is an indicator or menopause but high FSH is very common in women above 30 and tends to result in multiple ovulation and births. As in twins etc.
Fraternal Twins run in my family so having higher FSH didn’t really come as much of a shock.
That’s why older women are more likely to have multiples.
Hope this helps and puts your mind at ease x

Wishful30 · 21/03/2018 19:49

Thank you guys so so much!

High FSH may result in multiples.. made me smile as people have always joked I'll end up with twins 🙄

Had a good cuddle with hubby.
Booked a private hospital appt to see specialist GP in a couple of weeks, bloods for me and 'sample' test for him in the meantime so we can have a proper consultation with results in hand.
Rather expensive but lucky for me I can claim some back through my bupa work plan.

Fingers crossed I'm just jumping to conclusions. I guess at least I know about a potential problem so can jump strait on it.
Wish me luck 😐

Good advice from PP and good luck!

physicskate · 21/03/2018 20:30

How high is high? A high result just means crack on with trying (don't wait a few years to start ttc).

Redrosebelle · 21/03/2018 20:31

What was your result?

Wishful30 · 21/03/2018 20:49

All I know is that is high as I did a home test and it was nice and positive (idiot!) 🤦🏻‍♀️

Going to see the docs for advice and further testing

Home tests are well known for giving false readings for sperm tests. I see no reason why this test would be different. Blood fsh tests have to be taken on a specific cycle day - perhaps you've taken it on the wrong day. There was no way that result (whether high or low) was ever going to make you feel better!!

Seriously, chill out. See you gp if you haven't conceived a year after the chemical.

I've been ttc for two years and there isn't anything 'wrong' with either of us. Even though there clearly is...

cockupparent · 21/03/2018 21:40

Your cycle seems fairly positive to me. Plus a chemical.

I wouldn't worry at this stage.

However you do know (if done test correctly) you have something which MAY impact on your fertility. You can see your GP and push for investigation prior to the usual practice of a year of unsuccessful TTC before a referral will be made for any tests.

The year of TTC is only if there is NO known impact on fertility.

For instance I have PCOS- I don't need to wait a year of unsuccessful TTC before I see my GP if I wish to conceive

Cleozeta · 21/03/2018 21:47

The home tests are supposed to be done on cd3 for an acurate result, same as the blood test. The reason for this is that your fsh always raises before ovulation to release the egg. Just before ovulation would be your highest reading of the month. Try again on cd3, you might find it gives you a different result. Also I'm pretty sure the home tests give positive results if its even only slightly elevated. The blood test will be able to give you much more accuracy. Try not to stress, it may not be as bad as you think. Good luck!

Glad the twins thing didn’t freak you out 😂
I’m glad you’ve had a cuddle with the fella and that you’ve booked with the doctors for some further testing. It really doesn’t hurt just to make sure and put your mind at ease.
And as a PP mentioned, the day you did the test in your cycle does make a huge difference to the result. I totally forgot about that.
Good luck ❤️

polkadotpixie · 22/03/2018 06:48

Firstly I wouldn't trust those at home tests at all but more importantly if you're due to ovulate today you're testing at the wrong time. FSH should be tested between days 2-4 of your cycle so try not to panic! Good luck with your appointment 😊

Wishful30 · 22/03/2018 07:49

Thank you everyone ☺️

The test I used said 'use at any time in your cycle'
But google after google I am hoping it is just peak time for raised hormones. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Going to keep the docs tests and consult. It's been almost a year now so was planning on an appointment at some point.
Poor hubby get to go all the way to Harley Street to 'produce his sample' 😂
I get to go to my local hospital 10mins away for a needle so far.
Bless him he's so good.

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. Really helped calm me down!
