Turning 40 and thinking of 1st child

I'm turning 40 this year and thinking of 1st child... I stopped taking pills around October last year and got first period (after many years) in December. I got pg straight after on 1st cycle (very lucky as we were not trying as such), but then miscarried at about 6 weeks. I miscarried within a week or so once I confirmed being pg so it all happened quickly.

I know I am old(er) as Dr says at least I know I can conceive. My dilemma is I am in discussions of new, exciting job (not perfect -much longer commute) but thinking of 1st child... Was I very lucky of getting pg 1st cycle without much hassle (I do live healthy lifestyle although could lose some weight) or should I just accept I am not getting younger and stay put in current job and TTC straight away...

Seriously, I would crack on with ttc. You are not leaving much, if any, wiggle room if it takes longer/ you need any treatment etc.

I’d also crack on if I were you. Without meaning to sound ageist, time is not on your side TTC wise so I’d make it a priority.

Could you take job and ttc? Might have implications for maternity pay if you fall pregnant straight away on changing jobs but I don’t think you should be ashamed of taking a new job whilst ttc, people do it ALL the time. I know a woman who had two children in her early 40s without much bother, it clearly happens but statisitically speaking, the reality is that for most it is a lot less likely, and your risk of miscarriage is about 50% I think, unfortunately. Good luck!

Sorry have just read up on that again, and miscarriage rate is about a 34% apparently, not 50% (the higher figure is at age 45). Didn’t want to give incorrect info!

Time is not on your side. If you want a baby you need to ttc now.

Would you regret taking the job if it means delaying ttc and then not being able to have a child? I don't mean to be mean or flippant, but it is a very real possibility...

I started ttc at 32 and two years on I'm still not pregnant...
