Hormone tests and scared... Any advice?

OKso I've recently started to have hormone tests to my age (38) and having been ttc for over 6 months.

GP called today and said progesterone levels are low... Suggesting I'm not ovulating. I'm trying not to spiral into panic but I'm finding it very difficult. Mostly because I don't know what to expect... I'm having another test this cycle to see if it was a one off...

If it turns out I'm not ovulating what happens next? Is it just not going to happen for me?

For me personally homeopathy was the answer. For others the answer will be IVF or other modern medicine treatments.

Stressing about it won't help (dont worry I get why you're stressed its completely understandable) but research your options.

As I said homeopathy was key for my pregnancies, I have severe pcos and endometriosis and was told in my teens that I would never have children. Natural remedies kicked my body into doing what it should naturally do and producing hormones as they should. The same thing doesn't work for everyone so sometimes trying something outside the box is the answer. Good luck and keep me posted!

@Mizzworthy1 have you had 2 montgs of day 21 bloods done? Some months i ovulate & others i dont & i dont have pcos or anything. It took me 7 months to conceive coming off the pill though m/c. Doc suggested putting me on clomid possibly

Even if you don't ovulate on your own, there are many options to help. Clomid, letrozole, injections. It doesn't mean straight to ivf.

The most important thing is that you get the blood tests on the right day. It should be 7 days after you ovulate (which might not be cd21). For example, if you have 30 day cycles, you probably ovulate about cd 16. Therefore the test needs to be cd23.

A result of progesterone levels above 30 confirm ovulation.

For me personally homeopathy was the answer. as I said on the other thread you posted this on, that’s nonsense. There is no evidence homeopathy has any effect on fertility. If you became pregnant after using homeopathy, that’s a coincidence. It’s not evidence of cause and effect.

OP, sorry you’re going through this. There are definitely things which can be done if you are not ovulating. There’s clomid and other medications which can stimulate ovulation. It doesn’t necessarily mean straight to IVF.

The crucial thing with the test for ovulation is that it needs to be done at the correct time which is 7 days before the start of your period. If it is done too early or late in your cycle then you don’t get an accurate result. Also, if it was done at the correct time and does suggest you’re not ovulating, it’s only showing that for the particular month tested, the next test may confirm that you are.

Hey @Mizzworthy1 Is your doc repeating the test? Mine came out low first time and fine second time. I was told it sometimes takes a few goes to time correctly. Also, even if you didn't OV this month it doesn't mean you don't normally - these tests are just a snapshot of a single month and sometimes perfectly healthy women have anovulatory cycles. X

Hi,

My progesterone came through low (21 on day 21 and they like it to be over 30 to show ovulation). The following month I had a scan as we had decided to go for some private tests due to our history and sonographer said she could see I'd ovulated that month. So either I wasn't ovulating the month I had the day 21 test done or there was an issue with progesterone tailing off quickly during the last part of my cycle. I mentioned it to my consultant and she prescribed cyclogest pessaries. Could be a total coincidence but I conceived the second month on the cyclogest after a year trying.

Even if it turns out you're not ovulating then there are things that can be done such as clomid etc. I know it's scary but knowing what you're dealing with at least gives you the chance to hopefully do something about it.
