My cycle is usually between 31 and 35 days, with ovulation around day 21-23. This month we TTC and based only on CM I think I ov'd around CD16. I usually have about a 10 day luteal phase so that'd be about right for a 26 day cycle, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas why my cycle would suddenly have shortened so dramatically. I'm type 2 diabetic (insulin resistant) but I don't think my blood sugar has been any better controlled this month than in previous.
Am a wee bit disappointed, as my cycles are usually pretty consistent and based on that I predicted approx ovulation dates for the coming months so that my DH could apply for his R&R leave from Iraq at a good time to TTC, this short cycle has thrown a spanner in the works.

have you had any blood tests?

My cycles were always regular but went a bit funny over the last few months. Most were 26 days, one was 28 and the last one was 23 days. My gp told me it happens sometimes and is perfectley normal.

only blood tests i've had are my usual blood sugar tests. My docs won't give me any help to actually conceive (so no blood tests for hormones or anything) because of my weight (although the fact that I have already had a child at this weight means they have to give me help to get my blood sugar to a safe level for conception just in case I do conceive). When I say anything to them about being concerned that it's not happening they always just tell me to lose weight before they'd consider doing any tests.

ForcesSweetheart - Lovely to see you back ttc. Sorry to see that your cycle has thrown a spanner in the works. It's entirely possible to have a blip cycle, I'm guessing. I normally have 27/28 days and a couple of months ago I got a 31 day-er - I saw it coming with a late ovulation (temping) so was fully expecting it - but it still gets you wondering why.
I'd be inclined to say that this short cycle, or early ovulation could just be a blip - have you been stressed or worried about anything?
Wait and see what happens this cycle. Will you be temping again?

Not much help really, was I?

Hiya Ready! Not a huge amount of help (don't think anyone can be - think it's just one of those things), but always lovely to hear from you! hugs
No, not gonna be temping for a while. Dh is away now for 7 months (barring a 10 day visit home sometime in Aug/Sept) so don't see the point. I have been stressed in the past few weeks in the run-up to his departure, so I guess maybe thats what's done it.

Oh well, have 7 months now to get a bit of weight off and get fitter before he gets home (gonna be a bit hit or miss now whether we get the chance to TTC during his 10 days leave).

Hows it all going for you??

Well.... I am still here, which is a bit disappointing, I was really hoping I wouldn't reach cycle 9, but here I am - upbeat and positive as ever

It makes sense that you don't temp while he is away - make the most of not being ruled by a thermometer

I would say that if you have been stressed then that could affect ovulation. I guess you'll only know it was a blip, one-off after next cycle. Just enjoy each other when he comes home for his visit and if it tallies with ovulation then woo-hoo!

All the best!
