Gender sway methods

Any of them effective?
Has anyone tried any?
Just trying to make sense "science" vs "old wives tales"

Channel Mum have been putting out content recently about trying to conceive a boy/girl recently and I'm just not sure whether to believe it or not!!

Surely its all old wives tales. There isnt actually a scientific way of conceiving one gender or another. Its just luck and genetics.

MynameisJune · 02/03/2018 16:52

The only way to conceive a specific gender is through IVF and gender selection. Everything else is subjective.

Bubblegum89 · 02/03/2018 19:34

Old wives tale. Like june said, you can only choose the gender of your child using gender selection/IVF. There’s no scientific evidence for gender sway methods working at all

Aprilmightmemynewname · 02/03/2018 19:40

After dtd only on day 23 of a 28 day cycle both times I conceived girls a year apart. (after 6 boys dtd up to ovulation only)
Not deliberately btw, just due to circumstances!! Dh worked away with the girls!!

lolalotta · 02/03/2018 19:51

I believe it can be swayed depending on how close to ovulation you DTD. On ovulation for a boy, before ovulation for a girl I think it is!

Bubblegum89 · 02/03/2018 19:51

April You know you can only get pregnant up to ovulation, right? Lol. Unless you ovulated reeeeally late on day 23 of your 28 day cycle (in which case you wouldn’t have had a 28 day cycle, it would have ended up being a 37 day cycle had you not been pregnant) You can’t get pregnant if you’re not ovulating and on a regular 28 day cycle, you would have ovulated on cd14. Sorry for being “that” person lol just didn’t want OP to think you can get pregnant any time in your cycle. Also, 6 boys? You’re brave!

Aprilmightmemynewname · 02/03/2018 20:01

Well unless it was the immaculate conception - def only dtd on day 23 and have had a 28 day cycle since I was 12!!

MynameisJune · 02/03/2018 20:14

@lola it’s a myth that girl sperm live longer but boy sperm swims faster.

@april at what point did you get a bfp?

mammyoftwo · 02/03/2018 20:21

Is it really a myth? The CM stuff was boy swimmers were faster.

My understanding is that sperm can live up to six days and eggs for two days. Therefore, one can get pregnant from dtd up to six days before ovulation and two days after ovulation. Maybe I'm wrong?

Would need to look up diary for dc1. With dc2 am pretty sure we dtd two days before ovulation, and on the day of ovulation. That would contradict the Shettle method (as per CM) I think?

OP posts:
MynameisJune · 02/03/2018 20:31

Shettles method has been debunked many times.

In perfect conditions sperm can live for up to 5 days I think. But that’s if everything is right, body temp, EWCM or watery CM. This is highly unlikely and therefore it’s unlikely that sperm will survive that long. Same with the egg, it generally has around 17hrs and that’s it. 2 days is the absolute maximum. I’m sure it happens for some people but it’s the exception not the rule. And I’d say mostly it’s people not knowing when they ovulated rather than sperm/egg living longer.

mammyoftwo · 02/03/2018 20:35

Fair enough.

(Although I am one of these statistically unusual people who can feel when they ovulate, have done since I started menstruating at 12.)

Dd 1 bfp at af a week late and dd 2 over 2 weeks late. Dd 2 was also a week last due date (scan date). Weighed 6.12+7.02.

Bubblegum89 · 02/03/2018 20:41

April I’ve had 28 day cycles since I was 12 too but in September last year, I had a 34 day cycle. No reason for it, just did. My guessing is you had an odd cycle that month, you can’t conceive any longer than 48 hours after ovulation, it’s biologically impossible

lolalotta · 02/03/2018 20:42

We DTD on day 7, I ovulated on day 12, we had a girl. But I am just one person so it's hardly scientific Grin

MynameisJune · 02/03/2018 20:42

I know most women I speak to can feel when they ovulate. Myself included, didn’t realise it wasn’t a thing. I think when TTC you look out more for the signs.

We also conceived a girl when we dtd fri, sun and Tuesday. I ovulated on the Monday, by the boy sperm faster etc I should have a boy.

yellowisthecolour · 02/03/2018 22:01

It's nonsense - you can conceive boy/girl twins. It's out of your control (unless you use science as pp have said)
