Hypothyroid tablets and TTC

Hiya, I've been TTC for a year and just been to the doctors for tests. Apparently my thyroid hormones are slighty wrong which is usually fine but not ideal when TTC, so I have been given L-Thyroxin 25 tablets. Just wondering if anyone else has had this and what your experience was?

Me! I had Grave's Disease and went hypo after surgery to have my thyroid removed. It took a few months on Eltroxin to get my levels to what my endo wanted before we started TTC. She wanted my TSH under 2 if I remember. It's just a matter of getting on the right dosage before TTC, taking the tabs correctly and getting regular bloods done so you don't waste time. It'll be fine! You'll be monitored closely while preggers and your dosage will change.
Oh, I also had to get my TSH antibodies checked before TTC, which can affect conception and chances of miscarriage. Perhaps mention that to your dr/endo if they haven't checked that already?
Hope that's helped a bit. Good luck and give me a shout for anything else xxx
P.S love the username!

Hiya, thanks so much for your reply. Its definitely given me a lot more hope. They did check my TSH levels too, I've asked for a copy of my blood test results so will hopefully get that at my next scan tomorrow. I havent been told to hold off TTC till my levels have stabalised or anything, in fact I've been getting regular scans to see when I ovulate and then she wants me to go forth and concieve, haha. Will ask tomorrow about a follow up blood test now that I've been taking the medication.

Thanks for the kind offer. Its nice to know I'm not the only person to go through this. x

I struggled to conceive then had tsh etc tested and I was/am hypo with antibodies. After starting levothyroxin I conceived very quickly but miscarried. Of course I can't know for sure but I believe it's because my levels weren't quite right yet. My endocrinologist wanted to keep tsh under 2 and so for next 2 pregnancies I was under endocrinologist and obs and gynaecologist and dosage of thyroxine adjusted as necessary to maintain tsh of less than 2. Now have a nearly 3yr old and a 10 month old. Good luck!!

@FindingNormal thanks so much for your message, that gives me so much hope (Which is something I had almost lost in this TTC process)! Will ask my doctor tomorrow when I will be getting my next blood test. Will also look into getting an actual endocrinologist (Although my Gynecologist does seem to know her stuff).

How'd you get on at the dr jaggy? X

Me. I'm taking 125mcg NW, up from 25. I got pregnant very quickly once levels were stable.

Hi. I have hypothyroidism and had a baby just over a year ago. My pregnancy was consultant-led and I had to have regular blood tests to check my TSH levels, which had to be below 2.5 during the pregnancy, and had to see the consultant a few times to check things were ok. I had to increase my dosage twice as the needs increased. So I started on a dosage of 150mg thyroxine, went up to 175mg and then up again to 200mg around the third trimester, ish. The consultant was very relaxed about it all (I was pretty stressed about it initially).

Good luck with TTC :)

Ho there, thanks so much for the replies, they really give me so much hope!

@FindingNormal went fine, I havr my next appointment on Monday to see if I've now ovulated (was meant to be sooner but I went on holiday haha, thankfully woth DH). I might be getting a blood test then, but only to see if I ovulated. Apparently it will be too soon to measure the thyroxin levels. She made me feel really good about everything though. Now I just have to wait I guess!

A lot of women TTC are hypothyroid, and this is what's causing the issues. I'm only wondering if 25 is enough - I know many doctors are reluctant to supplement if your TSH is 5-10. For TTC you want it below 2.

I had 2 children after thyroidectomy, no issues.
