Early miscarriage?

Posted on another thread when I thought we had our first BFP.

A few days after a positive test, I had light pink spotting yesterday night (AF due date) but no PMT symptoms and still feeling funny in my stomach.

This morning I had dark brown spotting, again not much. Felt fine.

Now it would seem my period has arrived but I've got cramp across my lower stomach and backache. (Normal AF for me is a bit of light cramping in my tummy about an hour or 2 before AF and then that's it. Usually I've got such light flow that I can't use tampons - sorry for TMI) This is continuous aching and I'm sat on the sofa with a hot water bottle.

Could it be a chemical pregnancy/early miscarriage? Should I call the doctor to count it as a miscarriage?

Just feeling a bit rubbish now as it's the first and only positive result we've had in our 18 months.

I would speak to your doctor. Especially if the pain is becoming severe. Sorry this is happening Thanks

MaisyPops · 01/03/2018 14:50

I wouldn't say the pain is severe. Just a continual dull ache (in ny head it's how i imagine women who get bad period cramps would feel but as I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't get them it's all a but odd for me).

I might give 111 a call. Given out guidance is not to drive unless an emergency then they'll tell me.

I knew I shouldn't havr got my hopes up.

Have you done another test to see if it's still positive?

Sorry for what you're experiencing, either way it's nerve-wracking and horrible. I had cramps and spotting at 6 1/2 weeks and miscarried. I hope your story has a happy ending. Flowers

MaisyPops · 01/03/2018 16:26

Not today.
I did one and had a positive and have had 2 negatives. The last negative was yesterday.

Sorry for your loss Flowers
I think it's looking a sad ending for me this month.

So, you can ring the GP and see if you can have a referral to the EPU for an early scan, or you can wait a week or two to test again and see if you get another negative.

Look after yourself and allow yourself to grieve if it is a CP. Even very early on a mc is saddening to go through.

Malaco · 01/03/2018 22:00

Yes it sounds like it may be an early mc sorry. Flowers
I had recurrent early mc and i decided to see a fertility specialist in a private hospital to get some expert advice and a scan. (I'd already had a test on the nhs.) It cost £500 (14 years ago) and i felt it was money well spent at the time. I found it helped to feel you are progressing things and taking control rather than waiting and hoping. Hope you get your longed for baby.

Back to update. Called 111 (didn't want to venture out in the weather if it could be avoided). They called me in just in case.
The verdict is early mc sadly. They checked for signs of ectopic and think i'm all clear.

Lovely doctor who was very understanding and from what he was saying about symptoms I think I've had a coupke of other early mc when my cycle has been longer than usual.

We're all good to keep trying as soon as we want to. Fingers crossed.
Thank you for the advice abd support. It's been a crap day. Flowers

Sorry to hear it. :( I think I experienced another one earlier last year, too. Take care and give yourself time.

Sorry for your loss Thanks
My friend had an issue with recurrent early miscarriage and after some research decided to take baby aspirin. No idea if it was why but the next one stuck and is now a healthy little boy. (Btw she started taking aspirin before the doctors could fit her in to talk about the recurrent miscarriage issue. Once she saw the doctors they told her to continue taking it and they would have advised trying it.)

Really sorry @Maisypops - I had the same on early Feb, look after yourself and don’t rush back to work etc.
I had an early mc at the beginning of Feb (chemical pregnancy is such a rubbish term) and the physical recovery was quick, but the emotional recovery took some time. Flowers

MaisyPops · 02/03/2018 12:42

I've been on snow days this week so in an odd way it's worked out ok in terms of having time.
DH is quite calm about it. He says he's not viewing it as a mc instead more like it just wasn't viable. I don't think of it as a full mc but more like 'this could have been our baby'. We all have our own ways of approaching things.

This probably sounds silly but from the symptoms the doctor went through we don't think this is the first early mc we've had, which is in a daft way positive news for me abd DH because we were starting to feel like I might nevet actually get pregnant. Whilst it's a bit upsetting, it is in some ways positive news because it must be possible

We're viewing it that way anyway.
