How long to (realistically) conceive at 37 after ovarian surgery?

So just had the grown-up conversation with my partner of nearly 2 years (marriage, babies etc.) and he had no idea it could take at least a year to conceive, and said in that case stop taking your pill now! I know this means nothing to most people but I'm in that place where it seems like every woman I know is pregnant or already has babies, it's killing me, that bloody clearblue advert in the bathroom makes me sob.
I had 3 big dermoid cysts taken off my right ovary last month (leaving my poor ovary in tatters, I saw the pictures), and have another small one on the left which will need surgery at some point, so the surgeon told us if we want children we need to hurry up. I just feel like at least stopping my pill is the first step in the right direction so am thrilled, but am under no illusions I will be pregnant any time soon, so wise mumsnet ttc experts what timescale is realistic?

About a month in my friend's case! She was the same age as you, and had (I believe) a middling sized cyst removed. Hopefully you won't have to wait as long as you fear :-)

You got a piece of string lying around as it'll take about that long Smile
I'm 37 and I've been trying for 5 years and other than being a tube down we've not got specific diagnosis other than unexplained sub fertility. However most of my friends of similar age or older were pregnant within 6 months, apart from a few who took a year or so and another couple who had IVF. Coming off the pill is definitely a start and be prepared for it taking a while anything quicker is a bonus. Whilst it's not advice as such (I'm clearly no bloody good at getting pregnant) when we first started TTC I didn't book or commit to certain things as "I could be pregnant by then" now I just live my life and if by some miracle I ever get that BFP (we are on the list for IVF) I'll cancel, reschedule, rebook or readjust whatever commitments I have (as I'll be that pleased about the BFP I'll not give a stuff)
Good luck hope your TTC journey is far far simpler than mine.

Thanks, that's both ends of the spectrum! I don't think it will be as quick as a month with my messed up ovaries, but a good surprise is always better than a bad one, and @theartfulscreamer I really hope you get your bfp soon x

Ooh forgot to ask, should I wait until I finish this pack of the pill or does it not matter?

Thanks me to.
As for finishing your pill it depends on your circumstances, if you stopped today ovulated in 14 days and then found yourself staring at at a BFP 28 days from now would that be the worst timing ever or would it not make that much difference. Depending on pill type and person some people take months to return to normal cycles others stop one month and get their BFP the next. Do you have folic acid in? It's always wise to start taking this as soon as you consider TTC.

Good point, in the grand scheme of things 2 weeks is nothing so I'll finish this pack, stock up on folic acid, and then see what happens!
