Just looking for people's experience with Chinese medicine?
I have recently started and this month has been the absolute period from hell. Heavy bleeding, clotting, cramps. I have pcos so this was supposed to help with that.

What do you mean by Chinese medicine?

I have acupuncture, have only had two sessions so far but I find it very relaxing if nothing else.

I've had a month of acupuncture and my first af was a bit heavier and more crampy but my acupuncturist says it sounds like my body had a good clear out so it's a good sign. Perhaps this first af was similar for you?

I wouldn't say painful, although you do get a pulling sensation sometimes. I feel the pricks as they go in but it's so quick it's fine. Some stay in for a time, others are in-out quickly.

My experience of chm is that you need to be very, very, very careful that you choose a reputable practitioner.

I used to work on regulation of chm. It can be a very fine line- you may end up with a pack of tic tacs, or it can be incredibly effective, or the wrong herb can kill you.

Where did you find your practitioner?

newcarsmell · 28/02/2018 22:47

@reallyanotherone oh geez really. Bloody hell. I live in a small city so there aren't that many around. She's a naturopath that deals with fertility and hormones etc. I wasn't expecting Chinese medicine from her but she gave me a bottle of them and told me yo take 3 in the morning and 3 at night.

Be very wary of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Lots of quackery and charlatans. Some of the remedies are decidedly dangerous.

reallyanotherone · 28/02/2018 23:03

Do you even know what they are?

I wouldn’t touch them. If she’s not a trained chm practitioner she shouldn’t be handing it out like that.

I wouldn’t touch her again either tbh. Sounds like she’s ordered some stuff online and is selling it on.

Herbal medicine can be very effective. As it is as yet unregulated as medicine, it can also be very dangerous.

If you want to stick with a naturopath find one who does “harmless” treatments like homeopathy. If you want to try herbal medicine you need to be much more discerning.

IfNot · 28/02/2018 23:09

Don't try homeopathy-it's utterly useless.
There is a regulatory body for traditional Chinese medicine. Make sure your practitioner is registered.
For hormonal and menstrual issues, herbs would normally be prescribed. They are potent, and If you have a well trained and knowledgeable practitioner they can be very effective. The practitioner should monitor you over the weeks and tailor the prescription accordingly.
Herbal remedies have been used in China for a VERY long time, with measurably effective results.
Just take time making sure you get good recommendations.
