Periods getting longer & longer, long luteal phase?

Until TTC I had a regular 26 day cycle (came off birth control - Yasmin - in August). Started TTC in December and since then every period has been late, and my cycle is getting longer. First 27 days, then 28, then 30, and now on CD30 with no AF although I have had some of my usual symptoms. It's frustrating as although I try very hard to keep busy and not symptom spot throughout the month, I can't help getting my hopes up when AF is late.

The odd thing is I had a positive OPK on cd14 and it's now CD30. Isn't the luteal phase always 14 days? Does this mean I have a long luteal phase, or just that I am ovulating a day or so after my positive OPK?

Your luteal phase is usually pretty static but can vary by a day or 2. A positive opk doesn't necessarily mean you ovulated that day or even the next. It's usually a day or 2 later but the only way to be sure is to temp as this will show the date you ovulated based on a sustained temperature shift. An app like fertility friend helps determine that.

@Doodlebug89 I'm in the same position. I'm on cd34 and got a positive opk on CD14 and cd15. No sign of af and bfn

I tested on Saturday and don't know whether to test again. I feel like I am constantly peeing on my money and throwing it in the bin Wink Because every month I'm a little later I keep testing, and as soon as I test AF arrives an hour or so afterwards! Confused

I guess if you take into account ovulating up to 2 days after positive OPK + maybe a 16 day luteal phase, then you could be up to 18 DPO and then get AF? Would I be right in thinking anything longer than that is a bit odd?

P.S. Does anyone know why periods might get longer once TTC? I am a bit worried that maybe conception is happening but implantation is failing and that's why things are being delayed :(

*cycles, not periods

You can also have false surges. So the poster who got a positive opk 20. Days ago ... it is unlikely you ovulated then. You either didn't ovulate at all or had another surge later on in the cycle.

As to why it's delayed - stress can delay ovulation. It's not really your luteal phase that is changing, it's your ovulation.

As I said before - if you want to know for sure, you need to start temping starting day 1 of your next cycle

Failed implantation usually manifests as an unusually short luteal not long

I'm so confused. I had a temp rise on the same day as a positive OPK so I was fairly certain I ovulated.

7dpo to 10dpo I got light brown spotting/flow- only enough for a panty liner. Tested 12dpo with a FRER and got a bfn. Tested a few times since and got bfn. Still no af.

Could the light flow for 4 days have been AF? I thought it was mayb implantation bleeding but obviously it wasn't.

Did you keep temping? It needs to be a sustained rise of at least 3 days. Honestly I can't recommend fertility friend enough. It saved my sanity.

I'd say no on the implantation bleed. It's a bit of a myth at the best of times and it wouldn't be for 4 days.

Have you recently come off hormonal birth control? That could mess you up. Otherwise it may well be a very very light period
