Anyone know what they ask you? I've been told I can't just have my implant removed I have to go have a chat......

I had mines taken out last June at a local clinic as the drs could no longer do it.
I was just asked if I was aware of the risks of having unprotected sex and asked the reasons why I wanted it taken out and offered free condoms.
Probably pretty standard questions tbh

Standard but patronising imo.

I'm thinking of having the implant myself. I hate that I'd need to be "interviewed" in order to have it taken out.

yikesanotherbooboo · 25/02/2018 19:02

Where I work the main reason for the preinterview is to plan the appointment eg does the woman want a replacement implant?does she want a coil?
Has she thought about her options so that eg the pill can be started?
We don't expect the receptionists to quiz women on the phone and we have to be prepared. We have found that a pre consultation is useful. This also applies to coil and mirena insertion and removals.

Hey I had my implant removed at my doctors. I called up and they do say you must go in for a chat which I did. I just had to explain why I wanted it removed. Mine was simply because my partner and I are having a baby now and we was ready for that commitment. They will just ask you why you want it out that's all. If it's because it's not working for you they will offer you a different format of contraception.

Hope I helped x

I had the implant years ago. The drs were reluctant to take it out after 1 year even though I'd bled every day for the year apart from the few months they had put me back on the pill to 'level things out'. They were so against removal that it want until I threatened to take it out myself with a stanly knife that they agreed to remove it.

You know what is right for your body so if you want it out don't let them fob you off. HTH x

I’ve had an implant for almost 20 years now. Never had to have a pre chat when getting it removed for a break or to try to get pregnant. In the actual appointments to get it removed, they’ve asked why and told me I’m potentially instantly fertile the moment it is out and a few things like that then removed it. The last time I got it removed I got it done at a sexual health clinic that I didn’t even need an appointment for-it was turn up and be seen (my surgery had a three week wait and suggested this instead).

I had the same problem. It took 9 months of trying to get them to agree to take it out and by this stage it had been in 2.5 years.
I was ready for baby number 2, that seemed like the only reasonable response that would be accepted. The Dr was against it originally as she felt my weight was against me and I shouldn't conceive yet. FFS!!!!!

I was disgusted with the attitude and patronising response from the clinic staff ( I had to go to a SH clinic as the GP No longer removed)

Think about your response before you go in and be ready.

FEJ2016 · 25/02/2018 23:12

'A chat?' How very odd. Never happened to me. Have had one put in/taken out whenever I chose with no issue. Certainly didn't have to faff around with any reason etc. I mean they ask obviously but I'm sure whatever I'd have said they would have done what I asked. It's only contraception!

BDFT · 26/02/2018 20:12

I think they were against removing it as for the nhs it's cheaper to have a woman with an implant than to have her on the pill. I hated every minute of the implant and it's completely turned me against single- hormone contraception. Its not a problem now as TTC Smile
