Hello everyone I am just loking for some advice, hope someone can identify with this.
I had my DD 10 months ago. My AF returned in October and since then my cycles have been progressively longer until now, when I find myself on CD62 with no sign of AF. It is driving me mad because we would really like to get a BFP, but it feels impossible when I don't even know what is going on with my cycles, I don't even know if I am ovulating. I don't understand why it is taking so long for everything to settle down, other mums I know are pregnant or back to normal already. I'm worried that there is something wrong with me as it took over a year to concieve #1. Is there anything I can do to help regulate my cycles? We really want a small age gap.

it may be becoause you have polycystic ovaries.this causes irregular periods/acne /weight gain/ hairiness and difficulty to conceive.needs a ultrasound and blood tests- your gp will be able to organise it.
did u lose a lot of weight quickly and r u underweight?
other causes thyroid problem or if u r approaching the menopuase- i dont know how old u r.
ovulation can also detected by hormone blood tests- usually 1 week before ur period(called day 21 progesterone)
all can be detected thru simple blood tests via ur gp.HTH
By the way whats CD62?- cant find it in the acronym list?

Hi Shoegazer,

I would agree with greenvalley - there is likely to be an underlying hormonal problem causing these problems to arise. Polcystic ovaries or its related syndrome PCOS are common culprits behind it. Another possibility is that your thyroid is not working as it should, again blood tests can be done to assess this.

Would suggest you visit your GP asap and ask for blood tests to be done. In this regard they should carefully compare your LH (luteinising hormone) against that of your FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) - if these two are out of sync, particularly if LH is higher than FSH, this will certainly cause such problems (this is associated with PCO/S).

With such a gap it is likely that you are not ovulating regularly if at all currently.

You ought to have a referral to a gynae as well, PCO if this is the problem should not be messed around with by GPs.

DO not take anything herbal at all, you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

HTH

P.S to Greenvalley. cd = cycle day.

Thank you so much for your replies, funnily enough my AF started this morning! I have had thyroid tests (not for irregular periods, for a lump in my neck) and they are normal, and I don't have any of the other symptoms of PCOS that you describe, I haven't lost alot of weight and I'm 26 so not likely to be menopause. When I was 22 I had a laparotomy as a result of a referral to gynae for pelvic pain, but that was all clear. God, I sound like a terrible hypochondriac I will visit the GP, but I'm worried that they will just say that it is normal for it to take this long for your cycles to settle after a pregnancy.

Would return to your GP and ask for a referral to a gynae. It looks like you've been under their care before seeing as you've had a laparotomy done for pelvic pain (I wonder if they suspected endometriosis?).

Polycystic ovaries is a condition whereby the ovaries have multiple cystic follicles on them; it is not always accompanied by other symptoms although irregular periods are a big clue. It needs to be either confirmed or ruled out. One problem with this is that it is a very individualistic disorder and can affect each woman with it very differently.

Don't let the GP fob you off by perhaps telling you that your cycles can take this long to settle after pg - that is not the case at all.

Thank you again Atilla, I will make an appointment with the GP then. I appreciate you taking the time to reply x
