Investigations post miscarriage

Hi everyone,

I know the NHS wont invesigate until someone has three miscarriages. I've had a mc, it was my first pregnancy.

I was just wondering if anyone here had ever gone to a private fertility clinic or something to have investigations of their own and how it went.

Thanks!

Hi Peaches, so sorry for your loss, losing a baby is devastating. I had several miscarriages and when eventually they did tests, my lovely consultant explained that they don't do them until you've had three because you might just have been unlucky. I know it's really hard not knowing why, you wonder if you did something wrong, or didn't do something right; you didn't, you were just unlucky because 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. Any private clinic that will take your money at this stage is just making a profit out of your sadness. Be gentle on yourself and save your money sweetheart, you'll need it when that baby does turn up 😊 xx

A miscarriage is heartbreaking, I'm so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately they are also very common, most of the time women go on to have children afterwards. My second was a miscarriage, I had twins after and another Singleton after that.

How far along were you?

Wishing you loads of luck, but I think at this stage it's unlikely anyone will investigate further, however you totally can pay for a fertility health check. I also had reflexology and acupuncture after mine. Although I blame the twins on that!

Thank you. I was about 11 weeks. It was awful and it is now dawning on me that my baby wont be here this summer.

What do they do in a fertility healthcheck? I was thinking about acupuncture. How do you find it?

hugs

I don't live in the UK, and so have private health care.

I have had four losses and they didn't investigate until the third, I think that is pretty standard. They did a full bloods investigation of DH and I, family history, and also were able to do tests on the lost pregnancy (sorry, not sure of which words to use as it is such an emotional subject). We were able to determine that one loss was due to a genetic condition, but that was it. As the doctor told me, there is so much that they have yet to learn about infertility, maybe they could give us answers, maybe they could not.

(Turns out we fell into the vast 'unexplained infertility' category, but with the pregnancies I eventually managed to carry to full term, I used progesterone in the first trimester and now feel quite superstitious about it!)

Take the time to grieve and heal, and chat to your doctor.

X

Hugs for you.

I had a MMC in 2013 exactly had a ERPC to remove the baby on 2nd of February. I was 11 weeks too and my first pregnancy. I was thinking about it today and was feeling emotional.

Please look after your self and take some time off from work. I took 2 weeks off. I watched TV (Charmed drama) over and over again to forget everything and watched lot of films too. If you want to talk please message me.

I went to Dr.Hassan Shetata to get consultation after I got pregnant again. Turned out I needed Steroids at the early stages of the pregnancy due to very high NK cells.

peachesarenom · 02/02/2018 20:23

I was wondering about NK cells!

Also, I have fibroids but no one has ever said anything about them.

Think a fertility health check just does bloods and sperm count, but suppose it would, highlight any major problems.

I was really sceptical about any alternative therapies, but they found things like my bad hips that they didn't know about, I only had a few sessions as I was pregnant straight away pretty much.

Sorry again for your loss x
