Trying to TTC and currently in the 2ww. I have cut out alcohol completely, but really dont want to tell people why. What excuses do people use?

Say you're on antibiotics?

sophherts · 27/01/2018 21:30

Antibiotics for a bladder infection. That normally stops people asking too many questions!

Cakelaur · 27/01/2018 21:30

I say dry Jan or weight loss. Or New Years resolution to cut back a little. Or flip a coin and designated driver.

Sillybilly1234 · 27/01/2018 21:33

Dicky tummy.

Dry January / February.

Just cutting down to watch your weight ( no idea if you need to) but you are looking for excuses.

Say you read something and it has made you think about your intake etc.

Pob13 · 27/01/2018 21:35

Antibiotics is a good one, hadnt thought of that.

I find that many people see through excuses. Depending on the situation I'd just accept a drink and not drink it - easy in a party situation where everyone is mingling, but less easy in a pub/dinner situation.

Maybe it's because I'm known as liking a drink that my excuses were so obvious Blush

chipsandpeas · 27/01/2018 21:39

dont say antibiotics, most people will assume ur pregnant

hungover or on a health kick is prob best

Watto1 · 27/01/2018 21:40

People see through the antibiotics excuse immediately! At this time of year, Dry January is a good excuse. Or take the car so you can't drink.

Louiselouie0890 · 27/01/2018 21:41

Just say you don't want to drink

Halfdrankbrew · 27/01/2018 21:47

I think once you get to a certain age people will just assume you are pregnant automatically if you say you aren't drinking. The only thing I think is believable is "I'm driving", if you can use it? Although if it's obvious it's more hassle for you to drive sometimes even that doesn't work!

Oysterbabe · 27/01/2018 22:14

The only thing that works is pretending to drink. Non-alcoholic beer or cocktails, pretend sips and keep swapping drinks with your partner so he drinks both. If you draw attention to not drinking everyone will know, otherwise no one really pays attention.
If you say antibiotics you might as well just tell them, I always assume pregnant when that one is trotted out.

DollyDayScream · 27/01/2018 22:43

That you did dry January and now don't fancy a drink at all and want to keep it going.

MamaL86 · 28/01/2018 08:58

Soon you could give up for lent?

Chienrouge · 28/01/2018 08:59

Just say you don’t fancy a drink? I think it’s odd that people are expected to drink and need an excuse not to.
I drink, but if I don’t want one any time I just say I don’t want one.

MaisyPops · 28/01/2018 09:01

Don't fancy drinking, cutting back on alcohol.

I've been largely alcohol free since TTC July 2015. Still no BFP. People know I care about health and wellbeing and nobody batted an eyelid. But then again lots of my friends are also into health and fitness so it's quite normal to go teatotal (some for good).

Dry January/February healthy eating regime...
