Ultrasound date doesn't match OPK dates!

I monitored my cycle and tracked my ovulation by using ovulation sticks. I also used an ovulation calendar and according to the OPK - the dates matched.
I wanted to do this to ttc a girl (after 2 boys).

DH and I dtd on the Sunday and Tuesday, I had an OPK positive on Friday and also on Saturday. So that meant there was a 3-4 day gap between dtd and ovulation. I was feeling quite optimistic after getting a positive pregnancy test!

However, when I went for my first scan...the sonographer said it looks like my dates are a little out and that I ovulated early!! 3 days early!

Does anyone else have any experiences of similar things? Do you think the calendar and OPK were both wrong? Or could it be that the 12 week scan showed the baby is larger than average (dh is 6’4 after all!)...

Thanks for any comments!

I conceived girls a year apart from only dtd on day 23 of a 28 day cycle!! Ttc /pregnancy is a mystery at times. .
As long as the dates aren't making you doubt the df then stop stressing - plenty of that ahead already!!

Confused

Err... is this the part where we all say 'Congratulations! You're having a baby!'?

So the due date is 3 days before you had thought it would be. So what? I don't understand why this is an issue at all.

rosebb1 · 23/01/2018 13:56

It’s not an issue at all, and of course we will be happy either way, I just enjoy trying to work it out.

We're you temping? Not sure what you mean by ovulation calendar.

Definitely in my case OPKs have been wrong. They capture a surge, I have mild PCOS (but regular periods) and I think on months I ovulate my body attempts to surge twice, the first time is caught by the OPK and I then get the timing out. The same
Thing has happened with temping- there's a rise, but then another rise, and it's only at the end of the cycle I see I'm wrong.

From what you're saying though- you had sex on Tuesday, didn't have sex after that then three days later you got a positive OPK? Honestly I'd say you'd need to be temping as well to get a clear idea of what happened there.

MynameisJune · 23/01/2018 14:11

Opk’s don’t guarantee when ovulation will be. They detect the surge of LH that says your are gearing up to ovulate. Generally after that most people will ovulate 12-36hrs after a positive opk. But not always, sometimes it can be later than that. To pinpoint ovulation you really need to be charting your temp or anything else is just guesswork.

It’s also something to note that at 12 weeks the baby is still very small that even a 0.01 of a mm could knock your due date either way.

ForeverHopeful21 · 23/01/2018 15:05

Not that unusual. I was dated a week behind and then once I got to 12 weeks they put me at 4 days ahead. It is based on measurements of the baby at that point, and not the date that you ovulated. Its also very common for the measurements to be out slightly, so it doesn't mean you have a 'big baby' just because they say your 3 days ahead of where you think you should be. Very normal.

Sorry for jumping on this thread, but saw ultrasound and opk and I'm hoping for some reassurance (aren't we all?!)

I have irregular periods and have not been getting any positive opk this month even though I believed I ovulated. I just went for a transvaginal ultrasound and she said I was ovulating. Well I went home and the opk still was negative (has been doing them daily). What could explain this?
I was also told by one sonographer not to ttc this month as the folicle was too big and mature but the gynae said I should.
Feeling very confused and would really appreciate any thoughts.

physicskate · 23/01/2018 19:03

Opks surge 12-72 hours before ov usually.

JJPP123 · 23/01/2018 19:06

Even if you got the timing "right" it wouldn't guarantee a girl. My son and twin daughters were both conceived the night before ovulation

clumsyduck · 23/01/2018 19:06

Can't ultrasounds be out by a couple of days in terms of determining when conception occurred ?

NimbleKnitter · 23/01/2018 22:21

Ultrasounds don't date ovulation correctly - my current one has me conceiving before it would be medically possible.

But as a side note - Shettles had been proven to be bollocks. There are no physical differences between make and female sperm. The best sperm wins - it's so you get the strongest baby, regardless of sex
