Tmi sorry - anyone prone to UTI/yeast infections?

Hi all,
I’m fairly new to the site & only started really ttc at Christmas. Over the past couple of years, i’ve been more prone to infections & think this can only get worse while ttc. Does anyone else suffer with this? This month we dtd/bd (not sure of the abbreviations here lol) twice 4 days before ovulation & once 2 days before, but ended up coming down with what felt like a UTI the day before ovulation so that put an end to that Hmm I’ve been drinking tons of water, but still feel that horrible pressure on my bladder (though there’s no pain anymore) & now it feels like a yeast infection
I tend to nip to the toilet straight after sex (sorry tmi again) but wanted to increase our chances so left it for 15 mins last time which was prob a mistake. I generally do all the things you’re supposed to inc taking cranberry tablets & using coconut oil, but it still gets me. Very annoying!
The doctor put me on B12 vitamin injections before Xmas as my health hasn’t been great & my last blood test showed I was deficient in B12, iron & vitamin D. I’m feeling much better after this, but fed up with this set back. I’m taking prenatals & generally eat well too

Oops - that sent before I finished. Didn’t realise it had become such a long post! Blush Better wrap it up lol.

Anyway, just wondered if there are any other sufferers out there & if you have any tips I haven’t tried yet x

Hi pixie, afraid I don’t have loads of advice to give but I also suffer fairly frequently. I had a UTI and then thrush right when I was due to ovulate this month and was getting ‘high’ readings on the digital opk but ovulation ended up being a week later than usual. I’m not sure if my body delayed o because of it but it seems that way!

I tend to get a UTI and thrush at the same time or one after the other. Usually when I haven’t been drinking enough water, drinking too much alcohol and generally not looking after myself (ie the Christmas Period)

Do you take antibiotics for the UTI? Because they can trigger thrush as they will off all the good bacteria as well as the bad

HellaBella0 · 22/01/2018 22:05

Kill off that was meant to say ^

PixieN · 22/01/2018 22:11

Hi @Hellabella0 - thanks for your reply & sorry to hear you suffer too Sad It really is miserable. I tend to avoid antibiotics if I can for that very issue so try to manage it as best I can without. Tried lots of things in the past including D Manose, but the cranberry tablets seemed to work this time. Heard they’re not too good while ttc though. I just think we’ll have to time things better as I don’t think my body will handle too much ttc at this rate!

Yeah I try to avoid antibiotics too and often can get rid if I catch it early but there are some occasions when it just won’t go without them.

Trying to DTD when feeling like that is so awful isn’t it, really the last thing you want to do Confused

Water, water, water is key I think. Mine nearly always seems to come on after being dehydrated.

Bubblegum89 · 22/01/2018 22:22

Yes, I suffer with recurring cystisis

dorkusmalorkus · 22/01/2018 22:30

Sorry to hear you are suffering from this. I used to get them really bad and especially when ttc didn't want to go to the toilet straight after. I have found that if I go for a wee beforehand - literally just before, then I don't get them. It may be worth a try!

PixieN · 22/01/2018 22:33

Yes - I think I was definitely dehydrated this time & i’d had a couple of glasses of wine the night before which prob didn’t help. It really affected my libido at one point so we hardly dtd at all last year! I’ve felt much better since B12 injections & started feeling normal again so thought we could just get on with it. It’s just reminded me that I have to be careful & plan a bit better - as well as drink lots of water! It’s all very annoying!

I suffer with them all the time. The only thing that keeps them at bay is drinking sheldloads of water and ALWAYS weeing after sex even if I don't need to.

I remember reading somewhere that so long as you wee in the first half an hour you should be able to flush the bacteria out, but I don't know how scientific this is.

Even if I start to get a bit dehydrated I start to feel the usual pain coming on, I also tend to get a lot of symptoms around my period (although not a fully blown UTI)

PixieN · 22/01/2018 22:37

Sorry to hear that @bubblegum89 Sad Thanks for the advice @dorkusmalorkus I think I usually do that anyway, but might have forgotten the last time Confused

Thanks @goldmonday - water is obviously the key. It’s nice to know i’m not alone, but not good that there’s so many of us. It is grim!

You might want to try a different position when ttc, just in case that exacerbates it. I know there are certain positions where I'm way more prone to get cystitis so I just avoid those. And defo pee right after - I know people say you should lie down right after, but the good swimmers will be well away seconds after ejaculation so all you're going to lose is semen without sperm in and the slow ones who never would have got there anyway. Maybe use charting so you can work out your fertile days and when best to have intercourse too so you can do quality rather than quantity.

PixieN · 23/01/2018 07:51

Thanks @Celebelly - I hadn’t thought of that, but we tend to be very boring & stick with missionary. Not sure if that’s the problem lol. Maybe we were just a bit too enthusiastic last time Blush I’ve started using an app called P Tracker Lite. I’m rubbish with working thinks out & never had a clue when my period was about to start before this, so i’ve found this really useful so far.

Hi OP. First of all I totally sympathise, UTIs are awful. I was getting them frequently whilst TTC. My doctor said to make sure I go to the toilet before and after sex straight away and have a little wash. This has really helped! I have also been drinking pure cranberry juice from a company called Biona. It’s a pure Cordial so you need to dilute it and it tastes a little tart but I swear I have not had a UTI since drinking it regularly.

Blondcat · 23/01/2018 09:09

Not sure about uti's but for thrush I found taking a zinc supplement daily helped when I had recurrent problems. Also if I ever take antibiotics I get some of the pro biotic yoghurt drinks to have one a day when I am on the last couple of days of the course and keep having one a day for a week after. Not sure if any of that will work for anyone else but if did for me.

BethanyCourt · 23/01/2018 10:10

I had a real problem with recurrent UTIs (one time it turned into a full blown kidney infection - Ouch!). The best thing that helped me was to take a small dose (100mg) of antibiotic right after DTD. I used to take trimethroprim but since TTC it has been switched to Amoxicillin as that is more baby friendly.

PixieN · 23/01/2018 19:14

Hi Ladies, thanks so much for the tips! Feeling a bit more positive about things now Smile I’ve been having an actimel daily after this last bout & will see if I can find some of the cranberry juice mentioned. Not heard of zinc supplements for thrush, but will definitely try them. I’m guessing the Amoxicillin has to be prescribed so will see how I get on with the supplements etc & head back to the Drs if needed.

Does anyone worry about what this would be like in pregnancy? (if we manage to dtd to actually conceive that is!) It must be even worse having uti/thrush when pregnant Shock
