Norethisterone and ttc

Don’t know if anyone will know the answer to this...

Been ttc for 15 months. Came off the implant in Dec 2016. In August last year, I booked a weekend away with my partner then realised my period was due those exact dates. I didn’t want my one trip away to be ruined by horrible cramps so I got some Norethisterone off my GP and took the full course (started a couple of days before af was due and kept taking them for a few days after) Once I stopped taking them, I had a withdrawal bleed 3 days later.

My question is, did I effectively reset everything? Obviously when you come off birth control, it can take a while for hormones to settle down etc. By taking something with artificial hormones in in August, would my body go right back to square one trying to readjust itself again or is it not long term enough to cause any issues? I mainly ask because since taking it, my periods have gone from being 28 days like clockwork to being irregular (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter) and I wondered if the two things could be linked as it seems quite coincidental that my cycle is now erratic since coming off them. But with them being very short term, I can’t see how they would have messed my body up.

I know Norethisterone isn’t birth control but I know it contains similar hormones and I’m not sure if it can still have an effect on ttc and your cycle.

Norethisterone shouldn't have reset your system. Short-term use like that should only postpone your period, it shouldn't affect the next cycle in terms of ovulation and ttc.

I used to take it before I went on bcp and it really used to mess up my cycles. I remember one month I didn't have af at all. Anything hormonal can have an effect on your cycle. I think all you can do is go and see doc? If it's been 15 months I think they could do tests?

Thanks. I’ve had tests done and I’m with a fertility clinic now. All my hormone tests came back fine (apart from AMH which i haven’t had the results back for yet) I didn’t think it would mess my cycles up as the GP told me it was only short term and will only delay one period and then after the withdrawal bleed, everything would go back to normal. But after my withdrawal bleed, my cycle was 34 days. Month after was 26. Then 31, back to 28 and this month will be 24 days. I’ve been regular as clockwork ever since I started my periods at 12. They’ve never not been 28 days. Until I finished taking the Norethisterone so now I don’t know if it’s just purely coincidence or whether it’s possible that taking it is the reason I’m no longer regular :/
