Pregnant and holidays

Currently on month 3 of metformin for PCOS and after CD 127 my period has arrived!! It could be a coincidence! Or could be down to the fact that I am eating as good as possible and on metformin 500mg 3 x a day. Just going to wait it out and use OPKs and hope that this is a winning cycle or that the cycle is shorter and we can have another go!!

I have a family holiday booked this year, if fingers crossed it happens & one of the next few months is a winner, it would be possible that I am either a couple of months pregnant... or due!!

My question for you lovely lot being... how pregnant is too pregnant to fly? In your opinions? Obviously not too close to due date as would not want to go into labour abroad but I was just wondering what everyones opinions/experiences were.

Oh love, I don't mean to be difficult but what a funny question. You know the deal with this fertility lark ... it could be anything .. you could be pregnant, not pregnant ..

Ok - I think it's about 30 weeks when they recommend you don't fly but each pregnancy is so different it would just depend on a million things (high blood pressure? Sickness? Diabetes, babies development)

My advice? Just keep living your life, don't plan it around a potentially pregnancy - I did for 2 years, by year 3 id learnt better (I got pregnant In year 4 of TTc after ivf) Take the holiday.

Hilarious, right?

The question was not around wether or not I should go on the holiday... I intend to. It was for peoples opinions and experiences on flying when pregnant and how far along!! I was curious!!

This forum is just getting worse and worse!! Too many people getting shot down for asking genuine questions and getting sarcy replies. I'm done with it.

The infertility boards tend to be for people doing IVF, not general ttc. The conception boards might give you a more welcoming response.

As it stands my IVF clinic recommends I don’t fly until I’m at least 12-20 weeks into a pregnancy.

Hi OP, hope you don't mind but we're moving this thread over to our Conception topic now.

Brownbear84 · 08/01/2018 17:43

It's 37 weeks you can fly too! We have Cyrus booked for July if I get caught now I will be 32 weeks pregnant xx

GoodMorning1 · 08/01/2018 17:47

Ask the airline - most either have a limit, or will want a Dr note past a certain point in the pregnancy.

Darkstar4855 · 08/01/2018 17:52

Are the flights booked? If so have a look on the airline’s website and see what their policy is. I don’t have any personal experience to share as still ttc #1!

FWIW I don’t think there’s anything “funny” about your question, nor did it deserve such a patronising response. Nothing wrong with being prepared. Good luck, hope the metformin does the trick.

I lost a far amount of money from a cancelled booking due to previous pregnancy. So now I’m TTC again I’m just booking flights 7 months in advance, so I’ve just booked a summer holiday for early July knowing it will be safe to fly. We are thinking of flying long haul in September and I will book that in a few months if I’m still not PG.

1stX · 08/01/2018 19:01

Not to change the subject but since when was PCOS not part of the infertility boards?

It certainly doesn’t feel like ‘general TTC’ when you’re at drs appointment after drs appointment and desperately trying different drugs to try and get your body to do what it’s supposed to...

To answer your question OP although I really hope this is your month, don’t put your life on hold.

I missed last Glastonbury thinking I’d be heavily pregnant. I wasn’t (although thanks to metformin I did find out I was pregnant that weekend)

In one pregnancy I flew at 32 weeks back at 34, my last pregnancy flew out at 33 weeks, 35 weeks on our return. Both had been booked before I fell pregnant. Luckily I had straight forward pregnancies, felt well in myself etc. I did have to pay to get a fit to fly letter for both trips, I had quite a small bump and only one if the 4 times I went on the plane was asked to show it.

blue2014 · 08/01/2018 20:03

Jeez - over react much?! I was trying to be helpful. Do what you want.

but seriously the infertility board isn't a place for a casual chit chat about pregnancy and holidays Hmm

Bambamber · 09/01/2018 00:38

Most airlines have their own cut off points, but generally for a multiple pregnancy you can't fly past 32 weeks and single pregnancy 36 weeks is the cut off (though some do vary slightly). Past 28 weeks you'll need a fit to fly note or they won't let you on the plane.

I flew long haul at 32 and 34 weeks with SPD. Was bloody uncomfortable and have to make sure you get up regularly and do leg exercises. Also have to drink plenty of water which isn't fun when you've a baby sitting on your bladder and there's a line of people waiting for the loo.

Flying at 34 weeks was bearable but I wouldn't really recommend it.
