Just a question. Been ttc since MMC in June. Both Dec and Jan periods have been exactly on time but haven't lasted as long, 3 days max. I'm getting concerned about this as am thinking at 39 am I starting perimenopause!!
Today when i wiped, I had cm and this is day 2 since I stopped bleeding.
No other changes or signs of anything.
Thanks

If you can ask your mum what age she under went menopause and then subtract 10 years - that is a good guide to what age you’ll start menopause

Not bleeding much would maybe indicate a problem with your lining and perhaps it’s not thick enough?

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 05/01/2018 13:06

Peri menopause sorry not menopause

WelshMammy123 · 05/01/2018 14:31

Might be worth a chat with your GP. I was worried about how short and light my periods were and because my mum went through menopause relatively early was worried the same was happening to me. I had my day 2/3 and day 21 tests done and from that they could see that I wasn't perimenopausal. My progesterone was low though on my day 21 test so they wondered if I wasn't ovulating. A scan showed I was. So I was given cyclogest (privately) to boost my progesterone. I'd definitely suggest a chat with your GP.

Welsh, did the cyclogest boost fertility? I know that if I manage to get pregnant again, they will give me that to help it stick.
Not sure about my mum as I know she had an emergency hysterectomy when I was about 10. She would have been around 45 then.

Interesting. Mine have always been short (2-3 days actual bleeding, plus 1-2 days small amount of brown discharge), light and practically painless - all my life, same whether on the pill on off of it.
I don't yet know if this is going to be a barrier to conception as not had any tests - am also 39.
Is there any indication of what "normal" should be? That's another thing to worry about then.

OP - hope this doesn't mean anything significant for you and is just another one of those things that fluctuates naturally.

Presh12345 · 05/01/2018 15:22

Unsure, before pregnancy, mine were usually bang on time, 4 days ish plus a day at the end of "stringy brown discharge" -sorry tmi.
Since my MMC (had to have an ERPC) they have been bang on time, 4 days, no discharge at the end. Until December and now January which were again on time (to the minute practically) but only had 3 days of bleeding and then it stopped. Completely.
I'm giving myself until February at the ttc and will then see the doctor if nothing has happened.

Sorry OP, don't have any particularly useful insight to offer but am also concerned my periods are very light and what this could mean in terms of fertility. Since having the mirena removed in July my periods are only about two days of actual bleeding and my last cycle was only 24 days :/. I've read that pomegranate juice and red raspberry leaf tea can help build up the uterine lining. Not sure if it's an old wives tale but am going to give it a shot!

WelshMammy123 · 05/01/2018 17:57

I think it did but my feedback is anecdotal and not grounded in anything! I used the cyclogest when given it from cd 21 through to bfn. The next cycle I used it from cd 15 (day after I ovulated) and fell pregnant after a year of trying. I'm now 16 weeks. Stayed on the cyclogest up to 12 weeks.

With my dd it took us 3.5 years to fall pregnant. We had an unsuccessful ivf where I was given cyclogest. I fell pregnant naturally the month after the ivf failed with no period in between I.e ivf didn't work, 5 weeks later I was pregnant but I didn't ever have a bleed between ivf failing and falling pregnant so I think the cyclogest may well have helped then as well.

As I say it's anecdotal but I think it may have made a difference for us x

It could just be your fertility is taking a while to get back to normal after your Mmc. After any pregnancy it takes a while for fertility to fully return. Just because you are having periods doesn’t mean your hormones have settled. I would give it a bit more time personally.

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 05/01/2018 18:45

My periods are quite light and short now (wasn't always the case!) FWIW I was scanned on my latest cycle on CD10 (as I'm on Clomid) and the doc said my lining was a good thickness, so not sure that light periods always equals poor lining.

Alibaba2 · 05/01/2018 18:47

How heavy are those 3 days? And how long are your cycles?

I also have short periods but heavy for 2 days then light for 2 days. My cycles are 25 days and I ov on cd 10/11.

I had my lining checked and it was fine.

I conceived my first easily with shorter cycles but struggling now (although older).

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 05/01/2018 18:48

Confusion - how can you have a decent thickness lining with a short/light period? Doesn’t make any sense - your period is literally your living emptying so the amount of blood is a very good indicator of thickness of lining. Perhaps in your case your periods before were heavy and are now normal but subjectively feel light to you?

Alibaba2 · 05/01/2018 19:05

Most women lose 10-80ml per month so it varies a lot.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 05/01/2018 19:22

I think you need a thickness of at least 7-9mm to support a pregnancy - not sure how this equates to ml? Presumably we all have different sizes uteruses?

Alibaba2 · 05/01/2018 19:36

NHS says average is 30-40ml so 2-3 tablespoons. I think mine are around that and my thickness was 12mm I think.

DailyMaileatmyshit · 05/01/2018 21:12

Mine are short and light (when not on the pill. It's normal for me and I didn't struggle to conceive, so isn't necessarily indicative of a problem.

Sshsecretenclosed · 05/01/2018 21:30

I'm beginning to worry a little as remember my periods pre - pill being fairly heavy but was on pill for ten years. Came off just turned a year ago and periods are roughly 2 days of medium flow and then about 4 days of brown spotting. Concerned that my short periods could be to blame for not conceiving yet

Alibaba2 · 05/01/2018 21:31

If you’ve been trying for a while then ask GP for further investigation. I’m sure it’s fine. How long have you been ttc?

Sshsecretenclosed · 05/01/2018 21:37

It's been a year since I came off the pill but I must be honest have only really focused on opks for about three of those months sporadically. The last few months been very stressed about work and some other things. Could have been a bit more 'active' about everything.
