The odds of pregnancy after 35

Because of my age the stats say my chance of getting pregnant in any one cycle is about 20% (and that's if everything is ok!!). I know this is probably a stupid question but does that mean if all is ok the odds are that I should be pregnant within around 5 months, if we time evething perfectly (a big if), and if I'm not something is probably wrong with either me or DH's fertility? Or does it not really work like that? Sorry but I'm rubbish with stats!!

I got a bfp on the first month ttc at 36 and third month at 42. Not sure any stats would tell you that!!
Imo /e getting pregnant is pot luck!!

No. The GP won't take it further until at least 8 months, and you should probably document your cycle and when you are having sex.

I did that at 36, fully expecting to have to present evidence to doctor but I was pregnant in 6 weeks.

Other friends of the same age took about a year. Nothing wrong with anyone's fertility just not 22 anymore.

Hi, it just means that every cycle you have a 20% chance of bfp, and the chances aren't cumulative (i.e. doesn't matter if its cycle 1 or cycle 20- same odds). They're based on a representative sample (should be) of over 35s and the number of those each month who conceived.

Chances for under 35s is only 30% each cycle and thr advice is to seek help after a year. Nhs advice for 35+ is to seek help after 6 months so I'd follow that advice. You're probably fine but just to know where you're at!

Spoken by an over 35 myself Smile

I'm 38 and fell pregnant on our second month of trying

I'm under 35 and I'm on cycle 8 and my sister is over 35 and she conceived on cycle 1 so I really don't think that age matters too much (fertility does decline with age, but it doesn't mean that it will automatically put you at a disadvantage IFSWIM).

If you're not pregnant within 5 months then it definitely doesn't mean there's anything wrong with either one of you (although there could be, but you'd have to wait and see your GP about that).
