Hi all,
I've just turned 39 and my body clock is hammering away so implant is coming out on Monday!

I tried to conceive about 4 years ago for a year with my ex husband but nothing happened. I had blood tests and an ultrasound to check for PCOS - doctor said they couldn't see anything but my symptoms were consistent with it, heavy, painful and random periods, etc.

So, fast forward 4 years and I'm with a different partner now (much happier btw) and we've decided to start trying. He has a child with his ex so at least I know his swimmers work ok lol.

I've made the mistake of doing a bit of research on getting pregnant at the grand old age of 39 and it makes for some scary reading. I should probably leave it all to Mother Nature and not worry about it but I've always wanted to be a mum, and in fact it's always been a dealbreaker for me with partners. I can't imagine not being a mum and I feel that I'm in a point in my life where I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

I've been on antidepressants for 3 years and was going to come off them last year but then my brother died suddenly in August so it probably wasn't the best time to wean myself off meds. In talking with the doc this morning, she has said I def need to come off venlafaxine as it can be harmful to the baby in early pregnancy. So I'm weaning myself off it after consultation with her.

I guess it would do me good to hear some success stories of people who have never had a pregnancy before who managed to conceive in their late 30s/early 40s. Good news might offset those awful stats in my head!

If you made it this far, thanks for reading!!

C xx

I'm watching with interest as I am 39, nearly 40 and have just started TTC #1
I'm not desperate for it to work but I also share your fears about all the stats - it seems like it is going to be a long slog with the prospect of much anxiety and potential heartbreak. But maybe, just maybe it will all be ok!
Anyway - good luck to you!

Will follow this too!! 39 and ttc#1 after MMC in June.

coastalchick · 03/01/2018 16:06

I got pregnant at 38 and 7.5 months. Ended in MMC but that could be for any reason. Trying again (now 39+3 months) and it doesn't seem to be happening, but there are lots of ladies on here early 40's who have had kids no problem.

Yes, it's probably more difficult the majority of the time but not unusual or impossible.

Good luck!!! x

Coastalchick how you doing? I remember you from before.

coastalchick · 03/01/2018 19:13

hey presh - ok, though not pregnant yet. On cycle 4 post MMC. Seeing specialist on 15th. In 2WW at the moment but not hopeful. How are you getting on?

chrissiewissie · 04/01/2018 13:51

Thanks for your responses all, there's so much jargon and acronyms on here, I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually!!!
What's mmc and 2ww?!

@chrissiewissie Missed miscarriage (where your baby dies but you don't get any signs or only get signs a bit (or a lot!) after it happens.

2WW is 2 week wait - the period between having had sex to try for a baby and your period showing up (or not)

chrissiewissie · 05/01/2018 09:37

Ah ok, thanks for keeping me right. Sorry for those who have had miscarriages, I'm most afraid of that I think xx

We started ttc in January 2016, I was 40, my dh 41. I conceived in March, but sadly had a mmc in May. I was pregnant again in July and had our beautiful dd in April, when I was 41.
I'm 42 now and we'll be ttc again soon.
A lot of my friends have had babies late 30s/ early 40s. All the best.
